  • Patent number: 5253502
Abstract: An apparatus for bending and forming sheet metal into U-shaped channel members is comprised of a support block for supporting a blank of sheet metal in a centered position, a pair of rollers that engage in rolling contact against opposite ends of the sheet metal, and an anvil around which the sheet metal blank is formed into the U-shaped channel member. The sheet metal blank is formed over opposite sides of the anvil by the rollers engaging in rolling contact against the opposite ends of the sheet metal blank. As the rollers roll over the opposite ends of the sheet metal blank, they bend and form the sheet metal ends into channel bends having acute interior angles. When the rollers are removed from the sheet metal ends, the resiliency of the sheet metal causes the channel bends to spring back from their acute angle configurations to right angle configurations.

Abstract: The guideway for each working carriage has a predetermined parking position in a bending machine for skein-shaped material, in which several working carriages can be adjusted in positions determined by a bending program in a working plate and which comprises at least one working carriage guideway and a drivable working carriage transport device, with which each working carriage can be optionally coupled for adjustment. Each working carriage positioned for working can be adjusted to its parking position with the transport device and can be adjusted again to any optional position from the parking position by the transport device. A program control unit is preferably provided which clears the working carriages after the machining of a lot size of a bending program to their parking positions with leader and trailer programs and, prior to the beginning of a lot size, brings the working carriages from their store parking positions with a new bending program and adjusts them to the new positions.

  • Patent number: 5211047
Abstract: A bending die includes a first die portion for bending a stretch portion of a composite flange and a second die portion for bending a straight portion of the composite flange. The first die portion has a first inclined surface inclined at a first angle with respect to a horizontal direction, and the second die portion has a second inclined surface inclined at a second angle with respect to the horizontal direction. The second angle is smaller than the first angle. As a result, when the bending die is moved toward the composite flange, the first inclined surface begins to contact the stretch portion before the second inclined surface contacts the straight portion, so that a warp is prevented from being generated in the composite flange.

Abstract: A method of efficiently bending a lead of an electric part by use of a bender including an upper die and a lower die without denting or scratching the lead and hence causing no peeling of the plating therefrom. The method comprises the steps of: clamping the root portion of the leads between a moving stripper of the upper die and a fixed die member of the lower die; effecting a first motion in which the distal end portion of the lead that is clamped between a moving punch of the upper die and a moving die member of the lower die is pressed downwardly; and effecting a second motion simultaneously with the first motion, in which the moving punch and the moving die member, which clamp the distal end portion of the lead, are moved in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the first motion, thereby bending the lead along an approximately circular locus about the root portion of the lead by a resultant motion from the first and second motions of the moving punch and the moving die member.

The characteristic feature of each of the structures capable of being formed by the invention is that they are developable without slitting and have at least two adjacent surface segments which together, or in combination with each other if more than two are present, form a complex surface, developable without slitting. The structure consists of one or more of the types of surfaces known as plane, cylindrical, conical and convolute surfaces arranged in such relation that straight bend lines upon the complex surface and the images thereof when projected on the pattern meet within the confines of the surface and pattern at other than a straight line extending from edge to edge of the complex surface and pattern, respectively. A specific form of the apparatus particularly adapted for carrying out the process also is disclosed. The principles of this apparatus may be used to form various useful objects, by the method described and claimed.
