  • Patent number: 5868020
Abstract: A brake time measurement and brake control system measures the brake time of a subassembly, such as an upper die of a press, with the programmable controller already used to control the press. The programmable controller has a selectable time interrupt which causes an interrupt routine inside the programmable controller to be executed at regular time intervals. By varying the duration of the interval, the precision of the brake time measurement may be varied. Also, since the system is implemented with the programmable controller already present on the press, no additional equipment is needed to measure brake time. The brake time monitor and brake control system also implements a top stop control capability with improved precision. The improved precision results from dynamically determining a top stop zone which is appropriately sized given the speed of the die.

To that end, the apparatus is provided with a calking die structure which has a plurality of divided, relatively movable dies, each movable die being subject to being individually actuated by an actuator. The preferred embodiment of the apparatus also includes a controlling means which controls the movement of the actuators and a detecting means which detects a feature of the tank which is symbolic of the size and shape of that tank. The electric signal which indicates the feature of the container is applied to the controlling means. Then the controlling means sends a respective controlling signal for controlling the movement of the actuators in order to cause an adequate rearrangement of the shape of the calking die structure should the tank be different in size or shape then the preceeding one.

Abstract: A press machine adapted for the production of many different types of products in limited quantities. The press machine comprises a plurality of lower dies mounted on a bolster and a plurality of upper dies each mounted to a slide facing to the respective lower dies. Each upper die is mounted to the slide by means of a die clamper via an adapter plate and each upper die is biased upwards by coil springs so that a predetermined gap exists between each pair of upper and lower dies when the slide is moved down to a bottom dead center. An activating plate can be insertable between the slide and each adapter plate so that the activated upper die is allowed to make contact with the opposing lower die.

  • Patent number: 4389874
Abstract: A bending brake with an elongate horizontal blade lowerable onto a V-shaped ie has a fixed bed supporting the die and a pair of parallel hydraulic cylinders with pistons carrying the blade, the cylinders being mounted on brackets rising from the bed above the die. The admission of hydraulic fluid to the cylinders is controlled by electrically operated valves responsive to limit switches as well as a pair of mechanical valves, the latter being disposed close to the ends of the die on the fixed bed and being respectively operated by pins mounted on the vertically reciprocable blade in order to stop the descent of the corresponding piston in a predetermined but adjustable bottom position. The return stroke of the blade is not started until both mechanical valves have thus been operated, thereby ensuring that a workpiece of sheet material between the blade and the die is bent about a crease line having the proper orientation.

Abstract: Method involves programming crimp connection equipment to automatically and sequentially establish a plurality of desired different connection configurations. Information representing a series of desired connection configurations is transferred to a control means. Such information is carried by a card that also illustrates a desired final stator assembly configuration. An operator sets thumb wheel switches so that digital information on the card is entered into a control panel. The control means automatically sequences and conditions the apparatus to establish different connections. The card both directly controls machine operation and also is used as a process control card. Also disclosed is a means for positioning a crimp height controlling eccentric shaft in virtually an infinite number of different predetermined angular positions and virtually continuously monitoring the actual instantaneous position of such shaft.

  • Patent number: 4245492
Abstract: A pair of hydraulic stabilizing cylinders are supported on a common frame parallel to the main pneumatic drive cylinders driving counter-blow hammer impellers. The stabilizing piston within each stabilizing cylinder is connected to its adjacent impeller. Those ends of the respective stabilizing cylinders adjacent the impeller are connected to the opposite ends of the other stabilizing cylinders by fluid filled hydraulic lines. Because the cylinders and pistons are the same size, as the impellers move, fluid is transferred from one end of each cylinder to the other end of the other. However, should the impellers not move in synchronism toward their point of impact, that impeller tending to move ahead of the other will experience resistance from the fluid in the stabilizing system which tends to keep the impellers in step. In addition, means is provided to detect differences in position of the synchronizing pistons.

  • Patent number: 4181003
Abstract: A drive of a hydraulic screw press comprises a power cylinder incorporating a movable member connected with the press slide. A limit switch actuated by the downward travel of the slide opens a shutoff valve which permits fluid to flow through an adjustable flow-restrictor to actuate the piston of a pneudraulic cylinder within a preset time period determined by the adjustment of the flow restrictor. At the end of the preset time period, the rod of the piston will have traveled a distance sufficient to actuate a limit switch to control a valve arrangement for discharging the pressure in communication with the power cylinder. The slide is returned to the initial upper position by a cylinder under a constant pressure.

  • Patent number: 4170124
Abstract: A control and actuator system for a press brake having a frame, a bed, a ram, and a pair of hydraulic cylinders for reciprocating the ram, utilizes a jackscrew arrangement in conjunction with positive mechanical stops on the ram pistons to support the ram beneath the cylinders to enable the bottom travel limit of the ram to be preset. The top travel limit of the ram is preset by means of vertically adjustable actuator rods on the ram, which engage actuator stems on valves associated with each cylinder to stop upward travel and hold the ram in position. Tilt compensation is provided at the top and bottom ram limits by independent adjustment of the jackscrews and actuator rods, obviating the need for a complex tape and pulley driven differential valve arrangement. The novel hydraulic circuit provided for powering the cylinders utilizes pilot-driven control valves, and provides for direct venting of the system high-volume hydraulic pump when not in use to maximize system efficiency.
