Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for adjusting the width of the bending jaws in a bending machine. The total width (L) of the bending jaws is formed by using jaw parts and edge pieces in the following manner:a first set (R.sub.1) is elected to form a group of jaw parts of different widths for so-called fine adjustment, one at a time (R.sub.1n) being at the operational point (T) of the bending jaws,a second set (R.sub.2) is elected to form a group of jaw parts with identical width and to be separate from the edge pieces (RK.sub.1, RK.sub.2) for so-called coarse adjustment, wherein the width of the bending jaws required at a time is elected according to the equationL=R.sub.1n +N * R.sub.2i +C,whereinL=the width of the bending jaws,R.sub.1n =the width of the jaw part (n=0 . . . M) elected from the first set (R.sub.1),N=the width of the jaw parts of the second set (R.sub.2), i.e. a constant,R.sub.2i =the number (i=0 . . . k) of jaw parts of the second set (R.sub.

Abstract: There is disclosed a method of exchanging die sets in a press system. First, a state is established in which a die set having been used by the press system is held with a die holder means provided to a slide of the press system and is lifted up by the said slide. In this state, into an interior of the press system a carrier vehicle is transported having a first space in which a die set to be used next by the press system having been and a second space capable of accepting the said used die set, which is then dislodged from the said slide and is mounted on the carrier vehicle. Thereafter, the carrier vehicle is displaced to such a place that the said die set to be used next may be kept located below the said slide. Then, a state is established in which the said die set to be used next is held by the die holder means and is lifted up by the said slide. Thereafter, out of the interior of the press system, the said carrier vehicle is transported having the said used die set mounted thereon.

Abstract: A folding press is disclosed having a frame supported by a fixed base; a fixed beam and a ram beam supported by the frame, the ram beam being movable relative to the fixed beam; a pair of folding blades attached to the beams for folding a sheet of metal; and manipulation means for grasping the sheet of metal and introducing the sheet of metal between the folding blades, the manipulation means being attached to the ram beam. The folding blades are so disposed as to produce a horizontal working stroke relative to the fixed base, and the manipulation means comprises a plurality of arm members rotatable in relation to each other. In operation, the manipulation means grasps a sheet of material and introduces it between the blades while maintaining the sheet of material in a substantially vertical position relative to the fixed base, thereby minimizing folding errors caused by a horizontal disposition of the sheet of material.

  • Patent number: 5366431
Abstract: An automated die transfer system for location adjacent to one end of a press brake bed. It includes an upper and lower tier storage rack for storing a die, or for transferring a die to a press brake bed. The racks may have different widths, and rollers spaced along their length. A wheeled carriage on rails carries the storage rack. A first drive motor moves the carriage horizontally along the tracks, while a second drive motor is linked to a drive for raising and lowering the storage rack. A control system, which includes a multi-axis axis control, is connected to both motors. The control panel is mounted on a hinged support arm. In use, the control panel is pivoted to the front of the press brake, turned on, and the multi-axis control is used to control the first drive motor to move the carriage into alignment with one end of a press brake bed, and is then used to control the second drive motor to cause the storage rack to move vertically adjacent to the end of the press brake bed.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for prealigning multiple brake dies to facilitate die changes in a brake press. The apparatus comprises a die holder including a floating adapter attachable to the movable ram of the brake press, and a pair of subplates adapted to receive the multiple brake dies in a semipermanent and prealigned arrangement to form a subassembly which can be installed into the die holder with minimum setup time. The floating adapter permits transfer of loads from the press ram to the multiple brake dies in the subassembly without also communicating undesirable bending stresses therethrough. Also, the die holder includes guides for directing the subplates along a true linear path toward and away from each other. Secondary equipment used with the brake dies can be attached directly to the subplates, thus further reducing die change setup time.

Abstract: The shut height of a crimping die set (9) for crimping an electrical terminal (T) on an anvil (22) to a lead (L) is adjustable stepwise by means of a disc (60) which can be driven by a servo motor (M1) to a plurality of angular positions each setting a theoretical ideal shut height for a particular combination of lead and terminal sizes.
