Abstract: A tool assembly (1) in which a tool closing force (CF) is applied to a forming tool (2) by means of closing force actuators (40). In a tool closing position each closing force actuator engages a lower tool section (4) and an upper tool section (3) through tool clamps (31A, 31B). • Patent number: 6799449
Abstract: An apparatus of superplastic forming for massive production is able to install a plurality of forming sheets and plates in one apparatus using dies of multi-layer structure and to form the sheets and plates with compressed gas, and therefore, a plurality of products can be fabricated rapidly and massively with a cheap facility investment. If preforms are used instead of flat blank sheets, the productivity can be improved greatly and the products of uniform thickness can be formed massively.

Abstract: A shutheight adjustment system incorporating tie rods and accompanying hydraulic tie rod nut assemblies in connecting a bed to a bolster of a mechanical press for dynamically altering the tensioning of the tie rods. Each hydraulic tie rod nut assembly includes a cylinder with an inner sliding piston threadably engaging the tie rod. A pressurizing mechanism injects pressurized fluid within a chamber formed by the piston and cylinder. By increasing pressure within the chamber of the hydraulic tie rod nut assembly, compression between the press bed and press bolster may be increased, thereby increasing the press shutheight.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a press of pressure cell type and a method for manufacturing a press body part. The press body part comprises a number of plate-shaped lamellar means having the planes of the plates oriented parallel to the planes of the plates of the adjacent lamellar means. Each lamellar means has a through hole which has the same centre axis as the hole of the adjacent lamellar means. Prestressing means which induce a compressing prestress acting in the planes of the plates are arranged on an external edge surface of the main part of the lamellar means. The invention also relates to a lamellar means of a press body part.

  • Patent number: 6666064
Abstract: A hydraulic tool having a frame, and a movable adapter. The frame defines a workspace with an anvil adapter at one end and a substantially flat face guide surface on one side of the workspace. The movable adapter is used for working a piece in the workspace against the anvil adapter. The movable adapter is movably mounted to the frame to move in the workspace relative to the frame along an axis of translation. The movable adapter has a substantially flat face seating surface seated against the guide surface of the frame. When the movable adapter is moved, the seating surface of the movable adapter rides upon the guide surface. The seating surface and guide surface interface with each other for maintaining the movable adapter in a predetermined orientation relative to the frame.

  • Patent number: 6536251
Abstract: A hydroforming apparatus includes an upper platen carrying an upper die section and a lower platen carrying a lower die section. The platens are connected together by tie rods extending through respective compression tubes. The upper and lower die sections have recessed areas formed therein that define a die cavity. When the lower die section is moved to a lowered position, a workpiece can be disposed in the recessed area formed therein. Then, the lower die section and the workpiece are elevated by cylinders such that the workpiece is enclosed within the die cavity and mechanically deformed by the cooperated upper and lower die sections. A support block is then moved between the hydroforming die and the lower platen. A cylinder array containing a plurality of pistons is next hydraulically actuated so as to securely clamp the hydroforming die between the cylinder array and the lower platen.

  • Publication number: 20030010086
Abstract: A feedback control system for use in a press machine is adapted to monitor and adjust the clearance between the gib and slide. A connection bolt provides a connection between the gib and frame upright. A thermal applicator selectively heats and/or cools the connection bolt to induce a controlled deformation of the bolt, namely, an expansion and/or contraction, respectively. In one form, a heat-induced elongation of the bolt along its longitudinal dimension actuates a corresponding displacement of the gib towards the slide to regulate the spatial relationship therebetween. A sensor provides a measure of any possible clearance between the gib and slide. The clearance measurement is compared to allowable reference clearance data. A controller controls the heating and/or cooling action in accordance with the comparison results, thereby controllably moving the gib. The gib may be selectively displaced to optionally effectuate a partial or full close-out of the existing clearance.
