  • Patent number: 6000272
Abstract: A vehicle repair rack having a platform for receiving vehicles for straightening is tilted as it is raised from the floor for easier loading of low vehicles, without the vehicle's bottoming out. The repair rack uses a parallel linkage to raise the platform. The platform is one link of the parallel linkage; and, the link that is parallel to the platform is allowed to elongate as the platform is raised, thereby causing the platform to move into non-parallelism with respect to the elongated link, so the platform is tilted. The parallel linkage includes legs as the other two links, and a connecting rod between the two legs is the elongating link. One end of the connecting rod has a slot that allows the connecting rod to move axially to a limited extent for the elongation.

Abstract: A vehicle repair and alignment apparatus for correcting and aligning misshapened vehicle frames and outer body panels comprises a frame having a pair of elongate track members with slotted rails provided along the outer edges thereof, vertical pull towers pivotably mounted on a respective semicircular platen slidingly engaged on each rail enabling selective angular orientation of the pull towers with respect to the track members, and two pairs of vertical bolster cylinders powerably positionable in both horizontal directions within the track members each having clamp elements provided on the upper ends thereof for anchoring the vehicle to the apparatus. Horizontal displacements of the bolster cylinder pairs are effected remotely by actuating electric motors while vertical motion of the clamp elments are accomplished by fluid lifters. Proximity sensors on each clamp element automatically signal the limits of vertical motion when a body portion on the underside of the vehicle is within grasp.

  • Patent number: 5117672
Abstract: A machine for straightening anode rods has a portal-like frame through which the rods are transported in succession with the aid of a suspended rail conveyor. Jaws which engage on the sides of the rods are used to squeeze the rods. Beneath the jaws there is a rotatable fork which can engage and entrain with a shaped end piece on the lower end of one of the anode rods. The fork and its rotary drive is raised and lowered and guided for this reciprocal movement. An anode rod can thus be transposed through 90.degree. enabling the jaws to squeeze against all the sides of the rod.

  • Patent number: 5070720
Abstract: A tool for use in forming expansion loops in electrical communication cables or similar materials is formed of an elongated channel with opposing bends, thus forming a sinusoidal curve. The channel is twisted in order that the outer radius of each of the bends is contained within the walls of the channel. The tool is used by placing a length of electrical cable within one end of the channel and holding the electrical cable and any supporting line within the channel. The electrical cable is then grasped and held within the opposite end of the tool channel, and the tool is manipulated to form a sinusoidal curve in the electrical cable. The tool is then displaced along the electrical cable and simultaneously rotated 180 degrees, resulting in a mirror image of the first position. By again bending the electrical cable within the channel of the tool, a curve opposite the first curve is formed in the electrical wire, thus completing the formation of an expansion loop of consistent size and bend radius.
