  • Patent number: 6745448
Abstract: The present invention provides a pipe body of which the edge sections contact with each other stably and which can be formed only by means of only a press processing without performing a welding mass-producing, wherein separation-prevented engagement due to deformation of at least one of the engagement sections absorbs the spring back in the press processing. Also, the present invention provides a pipe body, a metal plate for the pipe body and a forming method of the pipe body using the sheet metal for the pipe body.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method which consists in pre-bending a metal plate along at least two longitudinal edges (12-13) then in bending said plate along at least one edge (12-13) using a bending member (103-104) by exerting, during the bending process (F1, F3), a clamping force (F7, F8) of part (23, 24) of the plate relative to the bending member (103, 104). Said clamping force (F7, F8) can be globally oriented towards the edge (12, 13). The installation comprises at least a member for bending (103-104) the metal plate along a longitudinal edge (12-13) of a tubular section of the frame. The bending member (103-104) is equipped with means (103f-104f) for exerting on a part (23, 24) of the plate a clamping force (F7, F8) countering the sliding of part (23, 24) of the plate along the bending member (103, 104). The bending member is articulated about a virtual geometrical axis (a, c) located inside the corresponding tubular section of the component to be produced.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for sizing a galvanized tube, in which two sizing stations are used. A first sizing station having at least one sizing roll is used for sizing the tube prior to the galvanizing process. A second sizing station is then used, the station having at least one resilient sizing roll which is used for sizing the tube after the galvanizing process. By using a first sizing stand, which does most of the sizing work, the rolls in the second sizing stand need not pull the galvanized tubes with as much force. The advantage of the present invention is that cooler temperatures, faster mill speeds, and less cosmetic flaws in the finished galvanized product are seen, due to the lower force applied by the second sizing stand rolls to the galvanized product.

  • Patent number: 4644770
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for producing spacers or blocks preferably for use in pallet structures as supporting elements for the deck and/or as blocks between load deck and stringers, said blocks consisting of sleeves made from sheet metal. An elongate, substantially rectangular sheet metal blank (11) is fed into a nip (7) formed by at least two corrugated rolls (1, 2) with its main plane inclined to the plane passing through the axes of the rolls. The front end (17) of the blank (11) is fixed in a groove (12) in the surface of the roll (1). When the rolls (1, 2) are rotated, the blank (11) is shaped in the roll nip (7) and is rolled on to the roll (1). After the rolls (1, 2) have rotated at least one revolution, the ready-shaped block is withdrawn or pushed from the roll (1) in an axial direction.

  • Patent number: 4468946
Abstract: A method of making a beam having a lambda-shaped cross section from a flat sheet of metal. The longitudinal side edges of the metal sheet are initially bent to provide a generally U-shaped section composed of a flat central web and a pair of side flanges that extend at obtuse angles from the web and are joined to the web at bends. The flat central web is then bent at locations spaced inwardly of the first bends to provide a generally flat base and a pair of side sections that are joined to the base at right angle radiused corners and the outer extremities of the side sections are joined to the respective flanges at the first bends. Each side section is then bent inwardly about the corresponding corner to form the lambda configuration in which the side members are at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the beam and the side flanges are in proximate flatwise relation.

Abstract: Forming rolls of a tube-producing apparatus comprise an upper roll having two identical roll parts supported at spaced-apart positions on a roll shaft, each roll part having a rounded outer circumferential working surface which, as viewed in section taken along a plane passing through the rotational axis of the roll, has a rounded convex profile shape of mutually different inner and outer radii of curvature on inner and outer sides of the profile centerline perpendicular to the axis, the working surface portion of the outer radius operating cooperatively with the outer portion of a lower roll to form the lateral portion of a strip metal plate passed therebetween. Each upper roll part can be turned around in orientation on the roll shaft to place the working surface of the originally inner radius on the outer side, thereby changing the gap between the upper and lower rolls to suit the wall thickness of the tube being produced.

  • Patent number: 4308662
Abstract: The invention relates to the formation of a substantially circular metallic shield (37) about a cable core (32) by wrapping a metallic tape (64) longitudinally about the core with longitudinal edge portions of the tape being overlapped by a forming key (100) to provide a closed seam (38). As the seam is formed, an underlying longitudinal edge portion (48) of the shield is supported while an overlying longitudinal edge portion (45) at the overlap is directed inwardly toward the cable core to preclude its protrusion into a jacket (39) which is subsequently extruded over the shielded cable core. A relatively thin strip (145) of metal attached to an inner surface of the forming key assures formation of the seam before juxtaposing the longitudinal edge portions and the core, and avoids penetration of a priorly formed inner shield by the longitudinal edge of the outer shield to prevent rotation of the inner shield and undesirable alignment of the shield seams.

  • Patent number: 4266310
Abstract: In accordance with this invention a part having an internally threaded section is formed by a progressive stamping operation in which there is only opposed rectilinear motion between the punch and die, and no mandrel is used. The part may include a U-shaped receptacle portion and a prong element for being bent over an object that is supported. In producing the part, grooves are formed in the surface of the workpiece, being progressively deepened to the depth of the screw thread and with side wall portions progressively given the inclination of the flanks of the screw threads. The threaded portion then is given a concave shape at either of its two opposite edges and a convex shape in between. The convex shape subsequently is made concave as the threaded section is closed up. In these steps the part is engaged by punch elements in the form of threaded members which have ridges corresponding to the grooves in the workpiece.
