Tray Or Drawer Loading Or Ejecting Patents (Class 720/601)
  • Patent number: 7974165
Abstract: The effect of detection errors when detecting if a disc recording medium is in a disc drive is eliminated. A control unit 17 detects if an optical disc 11 was supplied to an optical disc drive 13 based on the operation of the transportation unit 16, causes the optical disc drive 13 to detect if an optical disc 11 is inside the disc drive, and compares the results of these detection operations. If the results do not match, the control unit 17 causes the optical disc drive 13 to repeat the operation discharging and loading the optical disc 11, and causes the optical disc drive 13 to again detect if an optical disc 11 is present after the discharge and loading operation. The control unit 17 then determines if the new detection result from the optical disc drive 13 and the detection result related to supplying the optical disc 11 to the optical disc drive 13 match, and based on the result of this evaluation detects an optical disc drive 13 operating error.

Abstract: An optical disc drive includes a housing with a protrusion and a tray capable of sliding in and out of the housing. The tray includes a first surface, and a second surface opposite to the first surface. The first surface is partially recessed to form a receiving space for accommodating an optical disc. The second surface defines a channel, and forms a blocking portion at one end of the channel. The protrusion slides in the channel to guide the tray to slide in and out of the housing, and cooperates with the channel to prevent the tray from vibrating. When the tray is fully extended from the housing, the protrusion is located at the end of the channel forming the blocking portion, thus the protrusion is blocked by the blocking portion from sliding too far so that the tray is prevented from sliding off the housing.

The movable member is assembled to a rotating member via a pivot member in such a manner that the movable member can axially move along and radially rotate around the guide rod. The pivot member is disposed between the movable member and the rotating member and powered to rotate. The rotating member is provided with a disc-carrying device in a direction of its rotation around the pivot member for taking the disc. The pivot member drives the disc to rotate via the rotating member, so as to turn over the disc, so that the rotating member makes the disc slide down into the tray in an inclined manner.

Abstract: The invention provides a method for ejecting an optical disk and a related ejection device for a slot-in disk drive. The ejection device includes a block disposed on a contact end of an unloading bar. The block stretches out of the contact end of the unloading bar along a longitudinal direction of the unloading bar for pushing a small size optical disk so that a distance between a center of the small size optical disk and a contact end of a loading bar exceeds a predetermined distance. When the small size optical disk is unloaded, the unloading bar backs to an initial position, the slot-in disk drive idles to load and unload the small size optical disk continuously for pushing the small size optical disk outwardly further.

Abstract: A method (1000) to automatically detect and rectify a tray block in a disk drive (100) is disclosed. The method comprises detecting an occurrence of a tray block in a disk drive (100) upon receiving a tray-out command or a tray-in command by determining whether the tray (108) is in an intermediate position for a predetermined time period, the intermediate 5 position being a position between a first position within a casing of the disk drive (100) and a second position projecting completely outwards from the casing, the tray arranged to receive a record carrier (110) when in the second position and being supported for movement between the first position and the second position. The detected tray block is rectified by cleaning a brush-commutator interface of a tray motor (102), the tray motor being arranged to 10 move the tray (108) between the first position and the second position. The technique is useful for CD, DVD and BD recorders and for players which have the design of tray open/close mechanism.
