Patent number: 8589962Abstract: An apparatus with opening and closing mechanism includes a control unit for making a foreign object detection time period during which a speed change resulting from a foreign object being caught is detected longer than a play detection time period during which a speed change resulting from a play factor of the driving force transmission system is detected within a predetermined operating range in a vicinity of each of a start point and an end point of an opening or closing operation. Therefore, the apparatus can discriminate between detection of a speed change resulting from a foreign object being caught, and detection of a speed change resulting from a play factor of the driving force transmission system which occurs in the vicinity of either of the start and end points of the opening or closing operation without erroneously detecting any one of them by using a single position sensor.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2009Date of Patent: November 19, 2013Assignee: Mitsubishi Electric CorporationInventor: Kazunari Yamada
