Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling reproduction of video contents, wherein a user can readily move a play position to a desired scene within a brief period of time to reproduce video contents from the moved play position. The user can pause or replay a desired scene without requesting separate skipping. In particular, in the case where the user requests a pause mode or a normal play mode during a quick browsing mode, rather than during the normal play mode, the present system exhibits many differences from existing systems and excellent performance over them.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method is disclosed comprising: storing a first encrypted multimedia stream on a storage device as the stream is broadcast by a content provider; storing a stream of conditional access data on the storage device, the stream of conditional access data associated with the multimedia stream; and decrypting the first encrypted multimedia stream from a specified point within the encrypted multimedia stream using the stream of conditional access data, responsive to a user request to play back the encrypted multimedia stream from the specified point.
Abstract: A special playback request made by a user is input into a special playback controller. Transmission data to be transmitted to a decoding terminal based on the special playback request and insertion data to be transmitted together with the transmission data are read from a data storage unit. Used bits of the read transmission data and insertion data which occupy a vbv buffer are detected by a vbv delay detector. A stuffing insertion unit adds extra data to the read insertion data based on the detected used bits so as to adjust the data size of the insertion data. The resulting transmission data and the insertion data are selectively output by a switch based on the type of special playback operation indicated in the special playback request. The output transmission data and the insertion data are then transmitted to the decoding terminal.
