  • Patent number: 11910326
Abstract: During an uplink TDD slot, an UL UE transmits an UL signal that occupies a slot frequency range. Similarly, during a DL TDD slot, a DL UE receives a DL signal that occupies the slot frequency range. But during an SBFD slot, a UL UE transmits a UL signal that occupies only a first sub-band of the slot frequency range. Similarly, a DL UE receives a DL signal during an SBFD slot that occupies only a second sub-band of the slot frequency range. The second sub-band is distinct from the first sub-band. The DL UE may thus mitigate UE-to-UE interference during an SBFD slot by filtering the DL signal to substantially block the second sub-band from being received at the DL UE.

  • Patent number: 11877037
Abstract: In one embodiment, a system includes a first device that receives, from a cable television (CATV) node, first downstream and upstream CATV RF signals and converts them to downstream and upstream optical signals. The first device distributes the downstream and upstream optical signals separately from each other by using different fiber optic cables or different wavelengths. The system further includes at least one micro distribution system, each comprising a micro node and at least one string of taps. The micro node receives the downstream and upstream optical signals from the first device and converts them to second downstream and upstream CATV RF signals. For each string of taps, the received second downstream and upstream CATV RF signals are passed from the micro node along the taps and blocked by a low pass filter (LPF), and the powering signal is passed along the taps and through the LPF.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a CATV & MoCA® device, such as a passive, point of entry (POE) splitter or a RF amplifier. In the passive, POE splitter, a resistive splitter network connects plural “MoCA® only” ports, e.g., four, five or eight, to two or more “MoCA® and CATV” ports. The MoCA® only ports and MoCA® and CATV ports are connected to a MoCA® rejection filter, which is in turn connected to an input connected to a service provider. In the passive, POE splitter or the RF amplifier, an intuitive female coaxial port layout and marking scheme assists technicians with correctly connecting the POE splitter or RF amplifier to the correct coaxial cables at a customer's premises. The port layout also simplifies the circuitry design parameters on a printed circuit board (PCB) by orienting the “CATV & MoCA®” output ports at similar distances from a CATV input port of the POE splitter or RF amplifier.

The information that is used to determine where the cable should be attached can include the number of layers in the network; the number of switches in each layer; and the number of ports on the switches.

  • Patent number: 9825767
Abstract: Power management techniques for a network device providing services to other network devices. In one embodiment, a first device communicates requests for access to and release of a resource (such as a media serving service) hosted by a second device. Power management functionality in the second device selectively controls power to the resource based, at least in part, on such requests. For example, a resource may be placed in an inactive state following receipt of a request for release of the resource. Access to the resource may be provided through a network interface that is separately activated or deactivated by the power management functionality. In further embodiments, information relating to the state of the resource and/or network interface is provided by a proxy device.

  • Patent number: 9729936
Abstract: Particular embodiments identify customer premise equipment (CPE) in a subscriber's premises that may potentially cause interference with other devices. For example, the interference may occur within an interfering spectrum where an interfering CPE transmits upstream in a frequency band that is the downstream frequency band for other customer premise equipment, such as legacy CPEs. Once the CPE is identified, when the CPE sends a request to initialize the CPE on the network, a cable modem termination service (CMTS) may adjust the target power level for a transmitter transmitting upstream content within the interfering frequency spectrum. For example, for those CPEs that transmit upstream using upstream channels within an interfering spectrum, such as within 54-85 MHz, the power level for these CPE may be reduced. Other CPEs that are not transmitting upstream in this interfering spectrum may not have their power reduced.

Abstract: A method for remediating broadcast digital television signals is disclosed. A television signal is buffered by a multimedia client, and analyzed for errors. If errors are detected, replacement data for the corrupted data are requested from a service provider using a network back-channel. The replacement data are obtained from the broadcasting entity and sent back to the multimedia client. The replacement data are used to generate and display a faultless version of the digital television signal.

Abstract: A coupling device for use in a hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) network may be configured to disable an upstream path through it when there is only noise incident on the upstream path, and enable the upstream path through it when a desired transmission from a cable modem downstream of the coupling device is incident on the upstream path. The coupling device may be a trunk amplifier, a distribution amplifier, a splitter, or the like. The coupling device may comprise a single upstream interface coupled to a plurality of downstream interfaces. The enabling and/or disabling may be in response to a signal strength indicated by the SSI being below a threshold and/or in response to one or more control messages indicating whether any downstream cable modem is, or will be, transmitting.

Abstract: Techniques for adding WiFi capabilities to a region may include installing WiFi access points in a cable television (CATV) system. For easier installation of the WiFi access points, a WiFi access point extension devices may be integrated into existing taps in the CATV system. The WiFi extended taps are able to provide radio frequency (RF)/CATV signals to subscribers, provide power to the respectively integrated WiFi access point, and maintain power to the coaxial transmission line during installation. During installation, the WiFi access point extension devices can be integrated into the CATV outdoor distribution plant without having to splice into an existing coaxial transmission line. The multiplicity of existing tap locations in CATV distribution plants makes the positioning of new wireless access points extremely versatile for the cable provider.
