Needle Position Patents (Class 73/114.47)
  • Patent number: 11067028
Abstract: A fuel injector system includes an injector body having a proximal end and a distal end, the injector body defining a nozzle having an outlet. The injector system includes a spill valve fluidly connected to the outlet and having a spill valve member movable between an open position and a closed position. The injector system includes a control valve including a control valve member movable between an open position and a closed position. The injector system includes a check valve fluidly connected to the outlet, the control valve including a check valve needle movable between an open position and a closed position. The injector system also includes an electrical monitoring circuit configured to output a signal indicative of at least one of the open position or the closed position of the spill valve member.

  • Patent number: 10473503
Abstract: A positive linear displacement flow rate meter includes a first chamber for receiving a substance such as diesel from a fuel injector and applying a substance force to one end of a piston, wherein an opposing force is applied, such as by air pressure, in a second chamber, to the other piston end, and a comparator, for indicating to a control unit to discard invalid piston displacement measurements, until the substance force is substantially equal to the opposing force, allowing accurate flow rate measurement independent of variation in conditions between uses of the meter.

  • Patent number: 9273627
Abstract: An injection device for an internal combustion engine includes a piezo actuator for moving a valve piston, and a control unit for actuating the piezo actuator. The control unit supplies electrical pulses having different pulse energy to the piezo actuator and determines a return stroke between the piezo actuator and valve piston or a time delay caused by the return stroke. The control unit selects the pulse energies such that a maximum excursion of a movement of the piezo actuator caused by at least one pulse is smaller than the return stroke, whereas a maximum excursion of a piezo actuator movement caused by another pulse(s) is greater than the return stroke, after each of the pulses detects a frequency spectrum of a voltage signal at the piezo actuator during the movement caused by the respective pulse, and determines the return stroke or time delay based on these frequency spectra.

  • Publication number: 20140095052
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for checking whether an electromagnetically actuated gas injector (1) arranged in an internal combustion engine between a fuel source and a combustion chamber is in the closed end position thereof. According to said method, an electric test voltage is applied to the gas injector (1) and the discharge current (I) generated by the electric test voltage is measured.

  • Patent number: 8096285
Abstract: In a circuit arrangement (10a) for operating an injector arrangement (12a) for injecting fuel in an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, in order to obtain information easily as to the degree to which each valve is open when the injector arrangement is in operation, a measuring signal (S0) is superposed on a control voltage that is supplied to an actuator (Cpiezo, Rpiezo) and, based on an evaluation of the electrical properties of the actuator (Cpiezo, Rpiezo), a detection signal (S2) is produced that is representative of the position of the valve body (44a) relative to the valve seat (46a).
