Moving Specimen Patents (Class 73/37.6)
  • Patent number: 8212574
Abstract: A sensor system for measuring the thickness of flat material that is moved relative to the sensor system has a first sensor device for measuring the thickness of the flat material and a device for generating an air cushion. The device is disposed in such a way that there is an air cushion between at least one side of the sensor device that faces the flat material, and the flat material, during operation. In the region of the air cushion, the first sensor device includes surface sections having porous material and/or material that is provided with micro-holes.

  • Patent number: 7856333
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for commissioning pneumatically operated actuators that are controlled by a positioner. To determine the drive type, a constant flow of pneumatic fluid is applied to the actuator during commissioning while a drive-specific characteristic curve of the fed back position is recorded over time. Then the measured characteristic curve is compared with a given specimen characteristic curve. The drive type is inferred from the level of difference or agreement between the drive-specific characteristic curve and the specimen characteristic curve.

  • Patent number: 7010959
Abstract: In a device and a method for measuring path lengths, particularly of brushes in sliding contacts, an air stream having a regularly fluctuating pressure is provided by a pump and conducted via an air supply line and a nozzle to an object to be measured. The object is disposed so that its length or position affects the flow resistance of passing air. A consequent pressure drop in the supply line is determined with a pressure sensor, and an evaluation unit computes, in particular from the difference between maximum and minimum air pressure, a length of the object as a function of the pressure difference. In another embodiment of the invention, pressurized air is supplied from a pump to an object to be measured, and a sensor is disposed to detect a pressure change when the object has attained a predetermined length.

  • Patent number: 6895811
Abstract: Laminates are tested for the presence of small holes. For example, when a laminate is moving through a processing machine in a direction along a length of the laminate, a vacuum is applied to a surface of the laminate and the surface of the laminate is inspected to detect liquid that has penetrated from another surface of the laminate through small holes to the inspected surface.

  • Publication number: 20030024301
Abstract: The measuring device comprises at least one measuring head having a reference part, which comprises a reference surface against which the moving web is supported. The reference surface comprises a measuring area in the inside of which the property of the web is measured. The reference part is arranged in connection with the measuring head in such a way that below the reference part, there is a substantially open air space. The measuring head comprises means for generating negative pressure in the air space below the reference part, and the reference part comprises holes formed through it, in such a way that the negative pressure generated in the air space affects through the reference part the space between the reference surface and the moving web in such a way that the web is supported against the reference surface substantially over the whole area of the measuring area.

  • Patent number: 6318153
Abstract: A sensor (1) is proposed for noncontacting thickness gauging on films (2), in particular blown films, with a sensor head (3) and a mount (4) for the sensor head (3), which provides reliable measuring results despite transportation-caused movements of the film (2), and which is particularly suitable for a continuous quality control during the production process. In accordance with the invention, the sensor head (3) comprises at least one noncontacting sensor element for gauging the thickness in accordance with the physical properties of the film (2). Furthermore, the position of the sensor head (3) is adjustable such that the sensor head (3) is held during the entire measuring process at a predeterminable, at least largely constant distance from the film (2).

  • Patent number: 6200422
Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling moving paper web during manufacture or subsequent processing, wherein a web elongation profile and a moisture profile are measured. The web elongation is governed by at least two CD moisture actuators, which are situated at different stages in the web manufacturing process or subsequent processing. Means for measuring the web elongation profile and the moisture profile are situated after the CD actuators.
