  • Patent number: 6715352
Abstract: For a decoupled to gyro to have high sensitivity to angular rate, it is necessary to have the design flexibility to achieve all the critical frequencies in the design. The geometry of the gyro is first estimated and is followed by a performance analysis to maximize the gyro sensitivity. If the performance requirements cannot be met, the next iteration is started by a new estimate of the geometry. For a given design iteration, the desired modal response is implemented with a predetermined or given gyro flexure system. The flexure system disclosed here has enough independent design parameters to allow the desired modal response required for high gyro performance to be selected by independent design choice of the available geometric and configurational design parameters of the gyroscope.

  • Patent number: 4697091
Abstract: A device for detecting when a driven apparatus has frozen and/or its prime mover coupling mechanism is slipping. The rotational speed of a voltage generating alternator which is also driven by the prime mover is detected and a corresponding speed signal is compared to a reference speed signal. The reference speed signal corresponds to a speed slightly lower than the idling speed of the prime mover. When the detected speed signal is lower than the reference speed signal, slippage in the prime mover coupling mechanism is presumed and a slippage signal is provided. The slippage signal is used to control the coupling mechanism to disengage the apparatus from the prime mover to prevent damage from occurring.

  • Patent number: 4112683
Abstract: There is disclosed an engine which drives a turbine via a series of relatively identical hot gas pulses. The series of pulses are generated by a combustor-compressor unit under a controllable firing rate. The firing rate of the unit is rapidly variable over a wide range to enable one to drive the turbine and a shaft coupled to the turbine for propelling a vehicle. The combuster compressor is controlled to develop the gas pulses by a servo system which monitors the shaft rotation for varying mechanical loads to operate the turbine at a constant speed.
