  • Publication number: 20020078748
Abstract: In order to compensate for a drop in sensitivity at high rotational speeds, an acceleration sensor having an inductive measuring head (T) which cooperates with a moving Ferraris disk (F) essentially over a main magnetic field and which supplies an acceleration-dependent variable (Vdet; V&agr;) is expanded by an additional DC magnetic field excitation circuit (13, 14, IK, RK) with a means for driving the latter with the effect that the additional DC magnetic field acts in a compensating fashion on an eddy-current DC field, starting from a relatively high rotational speed (&ohgr;) of the Ferraris disk (F). This can be performed by amplifying the main magnetic field or by reducing the eddy-current DC field. A control signal (V&ohgr;), dependent on rotational speed, which both can be generated outside the sensor via a characteristic curve, and can be derived in the form of a control loop from the sensor signal (V&agr;), serves as a drive.

Abstract: An acceleration measuring system wherein acceleration transducers are mounted on a turntable supported by an air bearing and directly driven by a brushless motor. The output signals generated by the acceleration transducers are amplified by amplifiers mounted on the turntable and the output signals are converted to digital signals by an analog-to-digital converter also mounted on the turntable. The digital signals are modulated into AC signals by a modulator also mounted on the table and then transmitted to a demodulator on a fixed portion of the system through a rotary transformer. The output of the demodulator representing the acceleration signal is applied to digital-to-analog converters and also to a binary coded decimal converter. In an alternative embodiment, the acceleration transducers are mounted on individual separate turntables which in turn are mounted on a primary turntable.

  • Patent number: 4784237
Abstract: An apparatus for the automatic release of passenger protection devices in motor vehicles in the event of an accident has a sensor (35) having a mass (10) secured outside the center of mass (11). This mass (10) generates a comparably high torque in the suspension in the event of both positional change and rotational acceleration. These torques are detected with known measuring methods and split, with the aid of a high-pass filter (36) and a low-pass filter (40), into a high-frequency and a low-frequency portion. The high frequency portion corresponds to the rotational acceleration, from which the rotational velocity is obtained by means of an integrator (38). The low-frequency portion corresponds to the position of the motor vehicle. Thus both measurement variables that must be detected for releasing a roll bar are obtained with a single sensor (35).
