Patent number: 6190049Abstract: The present invention is a novel fluid thrust bearing system and method for assembling the same. When used in an indicating instrument, the fluid thrust bearing of the present invention reduces the number of necessary parts and simplifies assembly when compared to the prior art. A rotatable element is disposed in a close-fitting cavity so as to define a small gap between the element and the cavity walls, and a fluid is disposed in that gap to the substantial exclusion of air. The fluid damps the rotational movement of the rotatable element. In addition, adhesive forces among the fluid, rotatable element, and cavity walls and cohesive forces within the fluid help maintain the rotatable element in the cavity.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1998Date of Patent: February 20, 2001Inventor: Vincent H. Patent number: 5311780Abstract: Disclosed is an oil-filled pressure gauge leak-stoppage device including a rivet-like rubber gasket and a metal gasket respectively mounted on a plane on the peripheral wall of the casing around an axle hole thereof to seal the gap between the casing and the stem of the gauge, which stem being inserted out of the casing through the axle hole. A plastic gasket is directly molded on a chamfered annular groove on the bottom of the head of each gauge tie screw around its shank to seal the gap between the casing and the respective tie screw.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1993Date of Patent: May 17, 1994Inventor: Wen-Fu Ku

Patent number: 5303587Abstract: The present invention comprises an oil-filled depth gauge which is made far less sensitive to violent shock and the potential resulting inaccuracies to the maximum depth gauge indicator from such shock. More specifically, the present invention comprises an improved oil-filled scuba diving depth gauge in which the improvement provides a fluid dam member which may be affixed to or molded into the transparent enclosure covering the dial face to effectively block the flow of the oil in the region of the gauge occupied by the maximum depth indicator dial. The fluid dam reduces the likelihood that a sudden jar or other violent shock will induce a relative differential in the motion between the oil and the gauge body which might otherwise produce inaccuracies in the position of the maximum depth indicator dial.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1989Date of Patent: April 19, 1994Assignee: Under Sea Industries, Inc.Inventors: Dean R. Patent number: 4738141Abstract: An improved pressure sensor includes a Bourdon tube, as its sensing element, and an indicator controlled thereby. At least one tightly closed container is secured to a free end of the Bourdon tube and is partly filled with a bulk material. If the Bourdon tube is made to vibrate as a result of pressure shocks or vibration forces acting upon its fixed end frictional forces that consume vibration energy arise between the container and the amounts of bulk material contained. The indicator includes Hall elements and permanent magnets, which magnets are secured on the Bourdon tube and are moved by it relative to the Hall elements.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1986Date of Patent: April 19, 1988Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventor: Gunter Kas

Patent number: 4531416Abstract: A linear variable differential transformer pressure transducer includes a pressure sensing element which is deformed in response to changes in the pressure of a fluid. The pressure sensing element is connected to the core of a differential transformer, the coils of which are mounted on a dashpot within which the core is disposed. The dashpot is filled with a damping fluid which surrounds the core. The core enters the dashpot through an opening in a flexible boot which covers the open end of the dashpot to prevent leakage of the damping fluid. The pressure transducer serves to suppress destructive harmonic resonances of the Bourdon tube by imparting a variable restraining force on the linear movement of the core. The pressure transducer exerts a minimal restraining force to the low frequency movements of the core caused by normal fluctuations in the fluid pressure, but exerts a high restraining force against sudden pressure transients or vibration near the pressure sensing element's resonant frequency.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1983Date of Patent: July 30, 1985Assignee: Ametek, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth Loewenstern, Daniel M. Patent number: 4444057Abstract: An improved movement construction for a condition responsive gauge instrument to transmit displacement motion with reduced backlash from a condition responsive element to an output drive. A first embodiment comprises a spring grip between the segment gear of the movement and the pivot actuator imposed by an integral wrap-around tail portion of the segment gear. A second embodiment comprises a second segment gear supported in parallel relation with the first segment gear and operative to impose a weighted relation on the pinion of the output drive. A third embodiment comprises a combination of the first and second embodiments.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1981Date of Patent: April 24, 1984Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventor: Richard H. Patent number: 4246796Abstract: A pressure gauge in which the amplifier communicating displacement motion of the pressure responsive element to the pointer indicator, is mounted in a spring suspension isolating it from the force transmitting rigid components of the gauge. The spring suspension is effected by a pair of spring members connected to the amplifier including one spring member supporting the amplifier in its isolated relation and another spring member enabling operation of the amplifier to be effected.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1979Date of Patent: January 27, 1981Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventor: Richard H. Patent number: 4192193Abstract: A pressure gauge has a Bourdon tube element and a pointer mechanism supported on an inner support member which is substantially contained inside the case body of the gauge. The inner support member has a bore in communication with the inner space of the Bourdon tube. The case body has a flattened, outwardly projecting wall zone surrounding a first aperture. An end surface of the inner support member has a contour adapted to the contour of the case wall zone. The matching contours serve to position the inner support member and an outer connection member threads into the inner support member to hold it tightly in place. Seals are provided between the inner support and outer connection members and between the outer connection members and the case body. An air cushion sits on top of the dampening fluid. The air cushion is vented through a vent plug having a longitudinal bore that is terminated by a cross hole transverse to the bore.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1979Date of Patent: March 11, 1980Assignee: General Signal CorporationInventor: Werner J. Patent number: 4154116Abstract: The front edge (2) of a manometer casing (1) is curved inwardly and secures the window shield (3), located in a sealing ring (5), against being pushed out upon superatmospheric pressure in the housing. A partition (17), in which slotted holes (18, 20, 21) are provided for the indicator shaft (19) and for the bolts (16), is arranged between the support (8) for the indicator mechanism (13) and for the bourdon tube (14) and the dial (15), which is held by bolts (16) at a spacing from said support. The slotted holes extend in a direction running from one casing hole (7) to the axis (29) of the housing and are measured to be sufficiently long, so that the support (8) with the dial (15) and the longitudinally displaceable partition (17) located between them is insertable through the rear opening (24) of the casing (1), wherein an extension (10) on the support (8) is to be outwardly displaced through the casing hole (7).Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1978Date of Patent: May 15, 1979Assignee: Haenni & Cie.
