Abstract: The cable lift system provides assistance to movement of a flexibly suspended payload actuated by operator input into one or more sensing devices attached to the payload. The sensing device is configured to collect information about the typical push-pull and lift-lower motions of an operator moving the payload horizontally and/or vertically, such that the operator's input to the sensor is intuitive and is provided in a manner which is substantially transparent to the operator. The assist mechanisms included in the system are actuated by a controller processing signals received from the one or more sensing devices on the payload. Movement assistance is provided such that the manual effort required by the operator to overcome the inertia of the payload in a starting or stopping event is substantially relieved, thus minimizing the ergonomic impact of the starting and stopping events on the operator.

Abstract: An ergonomic, self contained hand-held thread inspection tool is power driven, which uses current draw as a surrogate for torque to initiate automatic reversal and gage withdrawal in case of jamming. The distal end carries the thread gage attached to a motor-driven spindle. A thread depth collar sleeve, adjustable by manual turning, concentrically surrounds the thread gage. When threaded into a blind hole or onto a protruding stud and operated, the distal end of the thread depth collar sleeve comes in contact with a part, pushing it against spring force. This movement is internally sensed, causing an indicator to flash, signaling “test OK”, while automatically reversing the spindle to withdraw the thread gage. If during the forward excursion of the thread gage a torque exceeding the pre-set torque limit is encountered, a buzzer is sounded signaling an over-torque problem and the spindle is simultaneously reversed for automatic gage withdrawal.

Abstract: A torque transducer system comprises a disc through which torque is transmitted in a radial direction and which has a magnetised annular region which emanates a torque-dependent magnetic field. A non-contacting magnetic field sensor detects the emanated field. The annular region comprises segments by means of which a pulsed magnetic field is emanated as the disc rotates. The segments may be magnetically unipolar and spatially separated or of alternate polarity. They may be integral with the disc of or material applied to the disc that is magnetised or that segments an underlying magnetisation in the disc. The preferred direction of magnetisation is radial and the effect of the orientation of a sensor with respect to the radial field is discussed. One sensor arrangement comprises a pair of sensors oriented at an angle to one another with reference to the radial field.

  • Patent number: 7520182
Abstract: A torque meter enables highly accurate measurement of a torque by detecting only the torque, without being affected by various loads. The torque meter includes an elastic member placed in a power transmission channel and being deformed upon application with a torque being measured, and a torque detecting arrangement for detecting the torque based on the deformation of the elastic member. The torque member receives a torque being applied to the elastic member, and the load member is provided separately from the torque member, for supporting the load of the elastic member.

Abstract: In a method and apparatus for testing a head-gimbal assembly (HGA), a HGA is placed in contact with force transducers mounted on a rotational stage. The force transducers are adjusted to position the transducers around a rotational center of the rotational stage. The rotational stage is rotated, and the torque and variations in torque exerted by the HGA on the force transducers during rotation are measured.

Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for measuring magnetic force response time due to the magnetic viscosity of materials and for measuring total energy exchanged due to relative motion of magnetic materials. Voltage and current versus time through an electromagnet is measured and recorded. Corresponding force versus time is measured for magnetic forces applied to a material under test in response to energizing the electromagnet to determine effects of magnetic viscosity of the material under test. A test system is also provided for measuring energy exchanged due to the relative motion of magnetic materials. Absolute values of transferred mechanical energy and electrical energy are combined to determine the total energy exchanged by interaction of a permanent magnet and an electromagnet.
