Flexible Connections Patents (Class 74/108)
  • Patent number: 4631970
Abstract: A pumping unit for pumping fluids from a location beneath the surface of a field. The rotary motion of a crankarm is changed to a reciprocating motion of a pair of flexible members by pitman arms pivotally secured at one end to the crankarm and at the other end to the flexible members which extend from such connection over a plurality of rollers and then vertically downward toward the well head. The flexible members are connected at their other ends to means connected to the polished rod. Portions of the flexible members and the polished rod lie in the same vertical plane so that true vertical reciprocating movement is imparted to the polished rod. The flexible members comprise non-metallic straps having a substantial width to provide stability of movement.

  • Patent number: 4578047
Abstract: A station-selecting device for a radio receiver comprises a rotatable control knob for driving an element of a tuning device which is capable of moving between two end positions. Motion transmission is carried out by applying a coefficient of friction between a shaft which is rigidly fixed to the control knob and a driven member. The coefficient of friction is of sufficiently high value to transmit motion when the moving element is located between its end positions and of sufficiently low value to cause displacement of the shaft in sliding motion against the previously driven member when the moving element reaches the end of travel. The driven member is a cyclindrical journal-bearing in which the shaft is rotatably mounted and which is preferably elastic, at least in the radial direction.

The assembly includes a sector member having a pair of parallel peripheral grooves therein rotatably supported in a housing with the housing also reciprocally supporting a slider tube with one end of the slider tube adapted for connection to a motion transmitting core element. A pair of cables are attached to the sector member and wrapped about the sector member in the respective grooves with the opposite ends attached to the opposite ends of the slider tube. The cables are preloaded in tension under a force which is greater than the force to be transmitted by the motion transmitting core element so that upon rotation of the sector member, the cables wrap and unwrap in the groove thereof while reciprocating the slider member without lost motion between the sector member and the slider member, i.e.

  • Patent number: 4311056
Abstract: The present television fine tuning is so constructed that an initial rotation establishes the fine tuning state and that a continued rotation of the fine tuning shaft performs the fine tuning. For this purpose the present tuner comprises a fine tuning driving member, a rotation transmitting idler member, a plate spring for supporting the idler member and a fine tuning driven member. The driving member includes a fine tuning shaft, a slide gear and a slip clutch mounted in front of a chassis concentrically around a channel selector shaft supported in the chassis. The spring member has freely slidable end portions disposed between the chassis and the slide gear for biasing the slide gear in the forward direction. The idler member is movably arranged on the spring member for transmitting the fine tuning movement. The slide gear has a gear back of a flange and a driven cam surface in the front of the flange and is operatively mounted around the slip clutch.

Abstract: A clutch device, particularly for the manual tuning control in a car radio, has the function of positively transmitting, through rack and pinion gears, movement from the tuning knob to the tuning runner. The clutch device comprises a rotating shaft (16) axially reciprocable with respect to frame (10) between an extracted position and an inserted position, with a knob (18) integral with said shaft. Shaft 16 carries a spur gear (20) at its other end, which in the inserted position of the shaft (16) with respect to frame (10) engages a gear wheel (22) integral with a pinion (24) which, cooperating with a rack (56) connected to the usual tuning runner (58) forms a rack and pinion device for positively transmitting movement.

Abstract: A real time scanned transducer ultrasonic imaging system is disclosed having an improved mechanical scanning system for reciprocating its transducer. The transducer is immersed in a fluid containing chamber. The drive system includes monitoring equipment which produces signals indicating transducer position. Imaging electronics processes (1) electrical signals produced by the transducer in response to ultrasonic echoes, and (2) the transducer position signals from the monitor. Display apparatus produces substantially real time ultrasonically derived images. The drive system includes a transducer carriage which reciprocates on guide rod structure. A drive arm is coupled to the carriage by a compliant coupling element. A drive shaft attached to the drive arm extends through a wall of the chamber, such that the drive shaft oscillates the drive arm.

  • Patent number: 4191061
Abstract: A fuel flow control lever is pivotably mounted for movement between fuel-off and fuel-on positions wherein it respectively engages first and second stops. A solenoid has its plunger linked to the control lever and when the solenoid is deenergized, a spring acting on the plunger holds the latter in an extended position wherein it holds the lever in its fuel-off position. A pair of coils surround the plunger and are selectively simultaneously energizable to retract the plunger to effect movement of the lever to its fuel-on position. The linkage between the plunger and lever is yieldable and the lever reaches its fuel-on position prior to the plunger becoming fully retracted. Upon the plunger becoming fully retracted, a normally closed switch is opened to de-energize one of the coils.

Abstract: In a pivotally mounted member of the memory fine tuning arrangement for a turret type television tuner, a pivotally moved lever plate provided integrally with a pivotal shaft having head portion, neck portion and body portion, is pivotally mounted on a front wall chassis base by setting the neck portion of the pivotal shaft into a notch of the front wall, wherein assembly of the lever plate to the front wall chassis base can be achieved by the two steps of inserting the head and neck portions of the pivotal shaft into a large opening portion of the notch in the front wall and slidingly setting the neck portion in a small opening portion from the large opening portion through continuous opening portion of the notch. To ensure easy and accurate assembly, a vertical support for the pivotal shaft on the front wall is affixed to the pivotally mounted member so that the parallel relation between the front wall and the lever plate is maintained.

Abstract: In order to drive a unit mounted on a carrier rotatable about an axis, the drive for the unit is transmitted from a unit actuator to the unit-drive mechanism on the carrier by a shaft-driven member so arranged that its rotation relative to the carrier is unaffected by rotation of the carrier itself. In one alternative this is achieved by transmitting the output of the unit actuator through a flexible shaft which enters the carrier tangentially and is guided in the fixed structure for its adjacent end to project in a direction normal to the axis of rotation of the carrier, and in an alternative arrangement rotation transmitted to the carrier actuator is superimposed, by means of a differential gear drive arrangement, one gear of which is geared to the output shaft of the carrier drive actuator, upon the rotation of the pinion transmitting, to a ring gear coaxially rotatable about the carrier, the movement of the unit drive servomotor output shaft.
