  • Patent number: 9179958
Abstract: A delivery device for semi-solid implantable material such as synthetic bone graft substitutes. The device includes a handle, a cylinder extending from the handle and having an outlet at its distal end. A piston is operated by a trigger and is slidable within the cylinder to displace the material from the cylinder. The cylinder has a substantially constant inner diameter along its entire length such that the outlet has substantially the same inner diameter as the rest of the cylinder. When the trigger is fully depressed, a ratchet mechanism is disengaged allowing the piston to be pulled back to a starting position.

  • Patent number: 7980428
Abstract: A dispensing gun for viscous material including a stock supporting a push rod which is advanceable along a keep in which a cartridge of a material can be mounted. The rod is advanced by means of a catch plate and a locking plate prevents the rod retreating with the catch plate. The locking plate is carried by the rod between a first and a second position so that it acts as a lost motion brake once force is removed from the trigger in one configuration of the dispensing gun, taking the dispensing force off the cartridge to prevent leaking when the trigger is not depressed. In an alternative configuration, the lost motion is reduced, for example to zero, to allow a continuous dispensing action by maintaining the pressure in the cartridge using a pumping action of the trigger.

  • Patent number: 6176398
Abstract: An effective trigger grip power device is disclosed for countering piston rod lock due to wear and tear in conventional manual caulking guns. The device is shown in the context of an open frame (which may be a single piece of molded plastic) having a downwardly extending handle. A piston rod is slidably supported in the frame for dispensing caulking composition, and a trigger is pivoted to the frame and retractable against the handle. The effective trigger grip power device is positioned behind the gripping member and generally has a pushing member at one end for bearing against the gripping member to urge it into a vertical position, and a base section that is slidably channeled through the frame and extending rearwardly to said release lever for actuation thereby. In operation, depression of the release lever drives the effective trigger grip power device to urge the gripping member into a substantially vertical position to eliminate trigger lock.

  • Patent number: 5893488
Abstract: A paste injector gun, especially adapted for injecting bone cement, has first and second mechanical advantages. In a first embodiment, the first and second mechanical advantages are produced by two fulcrums engageable during different portions of the trigger stroke. In a second embodiment, the first and second mechanical advantages are produced by a fixed fulcrum and a rotatable fulcrum. The first mechanical advantage is greater than the second such that the first facilitates pressurizing the bone cement and the second facilitates high volume dispensing of the bone cement. The injector gun also includes a pair of U-shaped slots. One of the slots is sized to accept a large cement cartridge and the other slot is sized to accept a small cement cartridge. An alternative embodiment provides a hinged cartridge retaining gate for closing the U-shaped slots for positive retention of the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5887765
Abstract: A caulk gun is provided with a forward-biasing mechanism to maintain contact between the caulk tube and the piston rod. The forward biasing mechanism is of simple construction and is piggy-backed to the trigger housing of the caulk gun. The operation of the forward-biasing mechanism relies on a friction grip which surrounds the piston rod. This friction grip is urged in the forward direction by a spring contained within the housing of the forward-biasing mechanism, and thereby biases the piston rod in the forward direction, while relieving the back pressure inside the caulk tube.

  • Patent number: 4471888
Abstract: A manually operable device is provided for dispensing measured amounts of a mastic-like or paste-like multi-component material. The components are supplied in separate containers and each container has an axially displaceable ejection piston. The pistons are displaced by piston rods and each piston rod can be gripped by a clamping jaw and the jaw is displaced via a manually operated lever and a stirrup. A support bearing member affords lateral support for the piston rods and the clamping jaws are pivotally mounted on the bearing member. The drive for the piston rods acts through the clamping jaw and the support bearing member so that each rod is displaced axially and does not need to be connected to the other. Due to a symmetrical arrangement of the forces acting on the support bearing member, the forces cancel one another out.
