Abstract: An automatic transmission that includes oil passages with a simple structure provided for twin clutches can allow the number of production steps to be reduced. The automatic transmission includes a number of gear trains equal to the number of speeds between a primary shaft and a countershaft. The automatic transmission performs connection and disconnection of a rotational driving force between a crankshaft and a gearbox by means of twin hydraulic clutches including first and second clutches, which are made of the same components and disposed on the axis of the primary shaft back to back. Oil passages can be formed into a more simple shape and can be configured to have the same total length. The first clutch performs connection and disconnection for first and third speeds, and the second clutch performs connection and disconnection for second and fourth speeds.

  • Patent number: 7430936
Abstract: A method for controlling operational sequencing of gears in an automatic transmission (102) which has been built in an auxiliary mode. In the case of such a shifting transmission it is possible that during the engagement of its transmission gear stage, impact noises or contact noises are present in the shifting procedure. This can occur by the generation of a tooth-on-tooth positioning between the toothing of a sliding collar (126) and the come-along toothing of an idler gear (130, 132). Provision is made for the control of the activation movement of the sliding collar (126) carried out in such a manner that an activation condition impact of the transmission parts, which are partakers in the shifting associated transmission part onto other transmission parts with the least possible impact force and/or with a least possible impact noise level.

  • Publication number: 20020189384
Abstract: A reliable gear shift to a reverse gear stage by using a manual operation is allowed even if an electrical system failure occurs in a hydraulic control apparatus for an automatic transmission having a plurality of transmission gear trains. The hydraulic control apparatus performs a gear shift operation by a select actuator and a shift actuator. When the shift actuator is actuated to a neutral position, an oil pressure is supplied from a shift position detection valve 64 toward the select actuator which selects a gear shift stage switching mechanism. Next, when the oil pressure is supplied by a normally open solenoid valve, and also a reverse gear stage switching mechanism is selected, a pilot pressure is supplied from a select position detection valve to a forcible reverse shift valve, and thus one oil pressure supplied to the shift actuator is shut off.

  • Patent number: 5233878
Abstract: A hydraulic closed loop control for positioning a transmission shift rail and synchronizer fork has recesses on the rail and ports in a valve body in which the rail is disposed. Fluid flow between the ports as permitted by the rail recesses controls the position of valves which in turn control the position of the rail. The valves control the position of the rail by routing pressurized fluid to one of two opposing sides of a piston fixed to the rail in response to the flow of fluid from the valve body ports. The pressurized fluid moves the rail to a desired position with the flow of pressurized fluid being interrupted when that position is reached.

  • Patent number: 5012725
Abstract: The present invention includes a three position actuator which is used to position the gear range control lever on a two speed transfer case. Three positions are required to achieve HIGH, LOW and NEUTRAL. Two individual air chambers may be selectively charged with compressed air to move two pistons along a common actuator rod to achieve linear translation of the control lever to selectively position the transfer case in HIGH, NEUTRAL or LOW range. The transfer case is shifted from LOW to NEUTRAL to HIGH by releasing the charge of compressed air thereby permitting the return spring to shift the control lever to HIGH gear range. Thus, in the event of failure of the system supplying the compressed air, the actuator will return the transfer case to HIGH gear range which provides an appropriate gear range selection for limp home mode.
