    Abstract: A speed reducer for a mixing apparatus having a gear train mounted within a housing such that the output shaft is supported by upper and lower bearings mounted within the upper portion and base of the housing, respectively. The lower output shaft bearing preferably is mounted within a recess in the underside of the housing base below a dry well containing the output shaft. The dry well forms a lubricant sump within the housing and preferably is unitary with the housing base. By placing the output shaft bearing below the dry well in the base of the housing, the diameter of the bearing can be increased to bear larger loads without being restricted by the dry well and is better able to transmit bending and radial loads to a relatively massive portion of the housing, and is placed closer to the load, thereby minimizing the amount of unsupported output shaft projecting from the reducer.

Gearing is also common between input (and intermediate) stages of smaller gear reducers and modular input stages used with larger gear reducers, further reducing the number of different parts. The two-stage reducers and modular input stages of the three-stage reducers are preferably driven by modular transmission adapters that support the drive pinions of the input stages.

The driven gear can be coupled, for example, to the impeller of a mixer via a vertical impeller shaft. The pinion shaft is carried in a cartridge that is adjustably mounted to the housing for moving the pinion shaft toward and away from the driven gear and for accommodating pinion gears of different diameters to change the gear reduction ratio without the need to change the driven gear on the impeller shaft. The cartridge is pivotally mounted to the housing at a point spaced from the axis of the driven shaft such that the cartridge and the pinion gear can be rotated toward and away from the driven gear. This also permits intermediate reduction gears that may extend below the driven gear to be moved clear of the driven gear such that the cartridge can be lifted free.

    Abstract: A driving system for an electric vehicle which drives wheels thereof with the aid of an AC motor via an inverter while a battery is used as a power source is constructed such that the primary side and the secondary side of the AC motor are rotatably supported in a motor frame. One of the primary and the secondary sides of the AC motor is operatively connected to a power transmission shaft for one of a left-hand wheel and a right-hand wheel via a reversible type speed reducing mechanism while the direction of rotation of the power transmission shaft is reversed relative to that of the one of the primary and secondary sides. The other one of the primary and the secondary sides of the AC motor is operatively connected to a power transmission shaft for the other one of the wheels via a non-reversible type speed reducing mechanism while the direction of rotation of the power transmission shaft is kept unchanged relative to that of the other one of the primary and secondary sides.

Furthermore, cost down and improved rigidity are achieved and the number of factors which may cause oil leakage is decreased.
