  • Patent number: 7490594
Abstract: The invention combines the features of a supercharger, a turbocharger and turbo-compounding into one system, utilizing a hydraulic or mechanical continuously variable transmission to drive the turbocharger up to a specific speed or intake manifold pressure and then holding the ideal speed to keep it at the right boost pressure for the engine condition. The benefits of a supercharger, which is primarily good for high torque at low speed, and a turbocharger, which is usually only good for high horsepower at high speeds are merged. Once the exhaust energy begins to provide more work than it takes to drive the intake compressor, the invention recovers that excess energy and uses it to add torque to the crankshaft. As a result, the invention provides the benefits of low speed with high torque and the added value of high speed with higher horsepower or better fuel economy all from one system.

  • Publication number: 20080257088
Abstract: A parallel eccentric electro-mechanical actuator provides motive power and includes an electric prime mover that drives the reducer's pinion gear. This pinion drives minimum three star gears with stationary shaft bearings. Each shaft contains an eccentric which are completely in parallel with each other. These eccentrics can be thought of as parallel/in-phase driven crankshafts. Each eccentric drives the parallel eccentric (PE) gear through a bearing. The PE gear exhibits a circular motion (without rotation) which in itself is unbalanced. The crankshafts have another eccentric which create an opposite inertia force to balance that of the PE gear. The PE gear contains an external toothed gear on its periphery. It meshes with the internal teeth of the output ring gear. The relative motion between the PE gear and the ring gear is that the PE gear rolls inside the ring gear. This relative motion is called hypo-cycloidal motion.

  • Patent number: 7361118
Abstract: In a gear mechanism, inner gear teeth and outer gear teeth are formed of high-tooth. An engagement ratio of the inner and outer gear teeth is configured so as to be 2.0 or more, whereby a load can be transferred between the inner and outer teeth via a continuous gear engagement of at least two pairs of gear teeth thereof. Accordingly, a contact face pressure and a bending stress occurring to inner and outer gear teeth can be reduced, the limitation of the durability of the gear mechanism due to the large difference of durability between the inner and outer gear teeth can be improved, and the necessity of increasing hardness of the inner gear teeth can be lessened.

Abstract: An apparatus for forging a ring gear having inner and outer helical gears formed with a predetermined phase relation therebetween is described. The apparatus is composed of a fixed outer die, a movable inner die, a mandrel carrying the inner die on its top and a knockout cylinder for ejecting a ring gear from dies after the forging process is completed. A material to be forged is charged in a space defined between the outer and inner dies and forged into the helical ring gear. The forged ring gear is first ejected from the outer die by pushing up the knockout cylinder and the mandrel while rotating the mandrel according to a lead of the helical gear of the outer die. Then, the forged ring gear is ejected from the inner die by further pushing up the knockout cylinder while rotating the knockout cylinder according to a lead of the helical gear of the inner die. In this manner the helical ring gear can be ejected smoothly from both outer and inner dies.
