Abstract: An anti-noise gear wheel against which at least one vibration damping mass made from a heat-resistant and oil-resistant material is coupled in order to de-tune its vibration behavior. In order to produce an anti-noise gear wheel which is simple to assemble and whose anti-vibration mass can be mounted in the gear assembly area using standard means, the anti-vibration mass is applied against the gear wheel by its full surface under a defined contact pressure. As a result, the use of adhesive to make an anti-noise gear wheel, which has been common practice to date, can be dispensed with.

Abstract: A vibration-proof structure for a gear transmission device includes a wave washer for pressing a gear of a gear transmission device that can move in an axial direction between opposed first and second fixed walls toward the first fixed wall. The wave washer is interposed between the gear and the second fixed wall. A cylindrical portion surrounding the wave washer is provided between one of the opposed end faces of the gear and the second fixed wall, and the cylindrical portion is in contact with the other end face to regulate an increase in the bending amount of the wave washer of a predetermined value. When the gear of the gear transmission device experiences vibration, the excessive bending of the wave washer for absorbing the vibration is restrained so that the wave washer can always exhibit a normal buffering function.

  • Publication number: 20040069086
Abstract: To render a gear arrangement for a transmission as quiet as possible but nevertheless able to handle heavy loads, a first gear (1) made of a first material and a second gear (2) made of a second material sit loosely next to one another on a common shaft (4). The elasticity of the first gear (1), preferably made of plastic, is chosen to be greater than that of the second gear (2), preferably made of metal, while the strength of the second gear (2) is chosen to be greater than that of the first gear (1). Because the second gear (2) preferably exhibits a slightly smaller toothing than the first gear (1), only the first gear (1), while having the same modulus, comes into engagement with another gear in normal operation. As the load increases, the first gear (1) made of plastic yields in the elastic range so that now the second gear (2) made of metal also comes into engagement in order to accept the forces occurring and thereby protect the first gear (1) against overloading and fracture.

Abstract: A gearwheel, in particular a chain wheel, for the transmission of torque from one shaft to another, has a form-locking fastening device for fixing it on the shaft in a defined position. The fastening device is a bowl-shaped driver part and has a damping device for the damping of torsional oscillations, the damping device including of a leg spring with two legs which are angled parallel to one another and surround, under prestress, a driver extension on the driver part and a driver nose on the gearwheel. The angular position of the gearwheel on the shaft is defined by the force of the prestressed leg spring, the torsional oscillations bringing about a deflection of the gearwheel on the shaft through a particular angle of rotation in both directions of rotation and therefore being smoothed. The cost-effective and space-saving form of construction of the gearwheel, which forms a structural unit with the driver part and the leg spring, is advantageous.

  • Patent number: 6616337
Abstract: A machine component, which may be a race of an antifriction bearing, contains pockets, the borders of which is defined by side-by-side reflecting surfaces which have free boundaries and intersect at alternating peaks and valleys. Vibration or noise to which the machine component is subjected produces mechanical longitudinal and transverse waves which propagate through the machine component, with the longitudinal waves being more intense and less subjected to attenuation. Some of the longitudinal waves encounter the reflecting surfaces which partially convert them into transverse waves, and the transverse waves rapidly attenuate in the machine component itself. Thus, the pockets reduce noise in the machine component.

  • Patent number: 5657666
Abstract: A transmission mechanism is capable of effectively attenuating vibrations generated thereby during operation by converting vibrations into heat energy. The base plate is provided with a plurality of flexible connecting ribs and a plurality of substantially sectorial openings formed alternately around a motor base part for holding a motor and bearing parts for supporting the shafts of the gears. Each of the gears has a rim provided on its outer circumference with teeth, a hub and flexible arms connecting the rim to the hub. Vibrations generated by the motor and those generated by the gears strain the flexible connecting ribs of the base plate and the flexible arms of the gears, the strains of the flexible connecting ribs and the flexible arms are converted into heat energy in the end and the heat energy dissipates, so that the variations are attenuated and noise attributable to the vibrations is suppressed.

  • Patent number: 5596905
Abstract: An oscillation damping gear including a gear member generally in the form of a chrysanthemum, having teeth and radial grooves defined between and by adjacent teeth, and an oscillation damping member having oscillation damping elements fitted in the radial grooves of the gear member. The oscillation damping member may include a plurality of separate damping elements or a central annular portion with a plurality of legs radially extending from the center annular portion. The separate damping elements or the plurality of legs are snugly fitted into the radial grooves of the gear member. The oscillation damping member may also include two adjacent gear members that are superimposed, so as to create a phase difference between the teeth, and coupled through a damping plate. The damping plate is elastically deformable such that the adjacent gears may rotate relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 5557980
Abstract: A multi-speed rear wheel drive transmission having synchronizers and a plurality of gears rotatable on the input shaft provides for the elimination of neutral roll-over noise and optimization of common reduced size synchronizers. Gear face widths are also reduced along with shaft diameters to further optimize the transmission design. Towing restrictions are no longer required in vehicles utilizing this design. The input shaft is coaxial with the output shaft and may be connected by synchronizer to the output shaft. A countershaft is in continuous meshing contact with the output shaft. Also disclosed is a device for correcting in-gear rattle, as well as a lubricating pump assembly utilizing an axial bore in the input shaft. Finally, a transmission with a power take-off assembly is disclosed.

Abstract: A rotatable machine component with a ring of resilient material secured to it in the vicinity of at least one axially projecting collar. The collar has a continuous annular groove around it that cuts into its contour radially, and the ring is secured in the groove just by snapping into it. The ring and the rotatable component rest loosely against each other, when the component is not rotating, without internal tension in the ring.

Abstract: A gear is comprised of a central radial hub with a web radially extending therefrom and an independent radial gear-toothed rim, both of which are radially coupled by a stress dissipating resilient member attached thereto and being located in a plane parallel to that of said web. The resilient member is laterally supported by the adjacent web and the resilient member side walls are proximately parallel to the web side walls such that the resilient member is not located between the outer peripheral edge of the web and the inner peripheral edge of the rim. Furthermore, the present invention comprises a process by which such a stress dissipating gear is manufactured.

  • Patent number: 5142783
Abstract: A method of correcting tooth system errors in a gear pairing in which one of the gears is mounted on a component to be driven. The mounted gear is first non-positively supported on the shaft of the component to be driven with a relatively small clearance between the gear and shaft, the error in the angle of gear rotation then is measured by a separate measuring facility in a single-flank rolling test, and the gear is radially displaced to correct for the error in the angle of rotation. The gear then is positively connected to the shaft without clearance between the gear and shaft by a plastic layer interposed between the shaft and an annular groove in the mounting bore of the gear.

  • Patent number: 5117704
Abstract: An elastomeric torsional isolator comprises one or more elastomer layers disposed between a spur gear, having a pair of sloped surfaces, and a pair of rims having corresponding surfaces. The rims are attached to a flange extending from a shaft which has pinions for engaging a driven gear. By preloading the elastomer layers, the spur gear is frictionally connected to the flange and shaft, rather than mechanically engaged. The preloaded elastomer layers act as an elastomeric torsional isolator which accommodates variations in mechanical tolerances to balance the torque loading in a split torque drive system. Using elastomer layers for balancing the torque loading between a pair of torque splitting gear assemblies reduces the number of bearings required, increasing reliability and reducing part complexity.
