Shift Element Interlock Patents (Class 74/473.24)
  • Patent number: 6439075
Abstract: In a transmission for automobiles, the shift feeling is improved by smoothly transferring the operational load between a shift rod and a reverse shift fork. This is accomplished by cam faces formed on a reverse shift fork which shifts a reverse idle gear between a neutral position and a reverse position, and cam faces are formed on a drive cam which moves integrally with a shift rod. When the drive cam is moved from a neutral position to the reverse position, one of the cam faces presses against another of the cam faces moving the reverse shift fork in a circular manner in an anticlockwise direction, and the reverse idle gear moves to the reverse position. When the drive cam member is moved from the reverse position to the neutral position, another of the cam faces presses against still another of the cam faces moving the reverse shift fork in a circular manner in a clockwise direction, and the reverse idle gear moves to the neutral position.

  • Patent number: 6422107
Abstract: A transmission breather system is provided in which a subassembly is formed by supporting a shift select shaft, moving in the axial direction according to a select operation of a shift lever, and a select spring, maintaining the shift select shaft in a neutral position, on a cover member. Moreover, a breather chamber is formed between the cover member and an indentation of a transmission case by inserting the shift select shaft into an opening formed on the bottom wall of the indentation of the transmission case to connect the cover member to the transmission case, and the select spring is housed in the breather chamber. Thus, with regard to the transmission breather system, it is possible to form a breather chamber whose maintenance is easy while avoiding an increase in the size of the transmission case.

  • Patent number: 6408709
Abstract: A cable block-locking mechanism of a dual mode shift lever unit having a shift lever pivotally connected to a pivot shaft in a lever housing via a lever bracket provided at a lower end of the shift lever, a rotation member rotationally mounted on the pivot shaft, and a cable block pivotally mounted on the pivot shaft outside the lever housing. The cable block-locking mechanism includes a stud slidably mounted to the cable block for selectively connecting the cable block with the lever housing, a push rod formed on the lever bracket for depressing the stud so as to release the cable block from the lever housing in an automatic mode, and a return spring mounted around the stud for returning the stud to its place so as to couple the cable block with the lever housing in a manual mode.

  • Patent number: 6370980
Abstract: A vehicle gearbox includes a basic gearbox with a main shaft that is an input shaft to a high-low range gearset joined to the basic gearbox. The basic gearbox has a control shaft, which, rotated in either direction from a neutral position, engages a selected gear. The control shaft is coordinated with a lock-out device which is controlled by a first sensor, which senses the speed of the output shaft from the range gearbox, and a second sensor which senses the engaged range in the range gearbox. An operating device holds the lock-out device in a lock-out position which prevents rotation of the control shaft towards the position for the lowest synchronized gear in the basic box, when the vehicle speed exceeds a predetermined speed in the low range of the gearbox.

  • Patent number: 6357316
Abstract: A shifting device (1) for pinion gear change transmissions which actuates the positive fit couplings by selector forks (3, 21) that slide on a stationary longitudinal guide (2). Shifting forces are transmitted from the shifting finger (9) to the selector forks (3, 21) by profiled metal plates (4, 5, 6) suspended in the selector fork (3, 21), the other end of the plates is guided in a switching comb (7) and the automatic locking device for blocking non-shifted gates and gears and gear selection is actuated via the locking plates (11) and sliders (16). The configuration of the inventive shifting device (1) makes it possible to provide a reliable, simple, low-costing shifting device suitable for various types of shifting mechanism such as lever shifts, turning-shaft shifts, cable and hydrostatic shifting mechanisms and automation modules.

  • Patent number: 6296070
Abstract: A transfer device in a four-wheel drive vehicle is provided in a simple construction wherein even an overstroke does not affect the shift position and thus eliminates the need of a highly accurate control for stop positions. The transfer device includes a high-speed/low-speed shifting shaft and a two-wheel/four-wheel shifting shaft disposed side by side in proximity to each other. A first elliptic groove and a first semicircular groove are formed in an outer peripheral surface of the high-speed/low-speed shifting shaft in an axially spaced relation to each other and a second semicircular groove corresponding to the first elliptic groove and a second elliptic groove corresponding to the first semicircular groove are formed in an outer peripheral surface of the two-wheel/four-wheel shifting shaft in an axially spaced relation to each other.

  • Patent number: 6237436
Abstract: A shift lever assembly includes a housing, a first shift member pivotally supported by the housing and for linking to a first transmission actuator, a second shift member pivotally supported by the housing for linking to a second transmission actuator, and a lever movable to selectively engage and operate the first and second shift members. An elongated interlock member is coupled to the lever and slidably received by the first and second shift members. The member has ends which remain slidably received by housing sleeves so that the member cannot move transversely to its sliding axis. Part of the member engages the second shift member to prevent pivoting of the second shift member when the lever moves into engagement with the first shift member.
