    Abstract: An apparatus configured to lift and lower a toilet seat on a toilet without the need to touch the toilet seat. The toilet seat lifting and lowering apparatus attaches directly to the bathroom floor and the toilet seat. A foot lever is pivotally attached to a base component that is securable to the floor next to the toilet. The foot lever is pivotally connected to a lifting lever that extends upward toward the toilet seat. A toilet seat attachment component is pivotally attached to a distal end of the lifting lever extending perpendicularly where it engages the toilet seat. The user steps on a foot pedal of the foot lever pushing up the lifting lever to raise the toilet seat. To lower the toilet seat, the user removed their foot from the foot pedal allowing the lifting lever to return the toilet seat to the down position.

The actuator output element (3) is connected to the parking lock by a clutch (6), and the clutch is disengageable, by the emergency release mechanism, to permit manual movement of the clutch in the first direction to disengage the parking lock.

    Abstract: A robot head, for example for use in surgery, provides a back-drivable system allowing a surgeon to closely control the position of a cutter or other tool. The cutter is mounted at the end of a telescopic arm (20) which can be rotated about two independent perpendicular axes. Rotation about each axis is controlled by a separate motor (30?) which turns a lead screw (32). A bearing (34) travels along the lead screw and changes the angle of an offset crank (36) to cause the required rotation about the axis. The current rotational position about each axis is determined by a sensor at the output. A second sensor independently determines the position of the corresponding motor (30) and the two measured positions are compared. If they differ, the power to the cutter is immediately switched off.
