Planetary Gearing And Slide Patents (Class 74/52)
  • Patent number: 4236416
Abstract: A power transmission for engines, motors, pumps and the like comprises a power shaft mounted to rotate about a fixed axis, an eccentric in the form of a tapered bar having arcuate ends secured on the power shaft to turn therewith, a power transmission ring having a circular internal bearing surface contacting the arcuate ends of the eccentric, a plurality of cranks connected to the power transmission ring by crankpins, each crank having a crankshaft journaled to turn about a fixed axis which is parallel to the power shaft. Power may be applied to any of the crankshafts by a motor coupled to the crankshaft or power may be applied to any crankpin by a pitman connecting the piston of an internal combustion engine or fluid motor to the crankpin. In either case, the power applied imparts non-rotary, planetary motion to the power transmission ring to turn the eccentric about the axis of the power shaft, thereby rotating the power shaft at the same speed at which each of the cranks is rotated but with more torque.

  • Patent number: 4224830
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a mechanical motion control mechanism which in one form may comprise an input shaft drivingly connected to an output shaft in such a manner that continuous rotation of the input shaft produces varying rotational movement of the output shaft characterized by an initial dwell period, an acceleration period, a constant velocity period, a deceleration period and another dwell period. The input and output shafts may be drivingly connected by means of a gear secured to the input shaft which is in meshing engagement with a second gear supported at one end of a pivot arm, the other end of which is secured to the output shaft. Rotational and revolving movement of this second gear is controlled by the interaction of a plurality of cam followers engaging a cam surface so as to allow rotational, revolving, and various desired combinations of such movements in response to rotational movement of the first gear.

  • Patent number: 4188831
Abstract: An automatic transmission is provided in which the torque from the motor is converted and coupled to the load via n (typically n=3) intermediate mechanisms, each delivering power to the load with a constant phase difference of .phi.=360.degree./n between successive deliveries. Three different intermediate mechanisms consisting of springs, springs and a crankshaft, and levers with variable lever arms are provided. These systems have no frictional or hydraulic or other dissipative clutch mechanisms, and are regenerative in that power not delivered to the load goes back to the motor. Also, there are no discrete gears, and as the torque required by the load varies, the torque conversion is accomplished automatically and continuously as if an infinite number of gears were provided. The system also has infinite gear ratio capability in reverse as well as in forward direction.

  • Patent number: 4186613
Abstract: A mechanical movement is provided for converting between linear and rotational movement and includes a frame adapted to move only along a linear path of travel. A first rotatable member is adapted to bear against the frame in such a manner that the first rotatable member is free to rotate with respect to the frame. A second rotatable member is adapted to bear against the first rotatable member in such a manner that the second rotatable member is free to rotate with respect to the first rotatable member in an eccentric fashion. A third rotatable member is affixed to the second rotatable member and is adapted to rotate therewith about a fixed axis. Means are provided for minimizing the sideward thrust on the first and second rotatable members so that linear movement of the frame will be converted to rotational movement of the third rotatable member and so that rotational movement of the third rotatable member will be converted to linear movement of the frame.

  • Patent number: 4018090
Abstract: An intermittent reversible indexing system with a rotary input and rotary output which includes a natural dwell of the output at the end of each cycle with a smooth acceleration to a maximum velocity and subsequent deceleration to another dwell and a simple mechanism for changing the index stroke. A planetary carrier carrying a single planetary gear is driven about a first axis with the planetary gear in mesh with a stationary sun gear concentric about said first axis. A drive member in the form of a shaft eccentric to the axis of said planetary engages and slides in a slot of an output member, thereby driving said output member about a second axis displaced from said first axis. • Patent number: 3990325
Abstract: Apparatus for balancing or equalizing the mass forces of an engine having reciprocating pistons turning a crankshaft rotates a drive gear twice as fast as the crankshaft. A planetary gear is eccentrically carried on the drive gear and meshes with internal teeth on a stationary sun gear at a gear ratio of 1:2. The planetary gear has an eccentrically placed counterweight of a mass such that it balances the mass forces of the engine of the same order as the ratio of drive gear to crankshaft speed, Order II mass forces for this example. The drive gear also has an eccentrically placed counterweight which balances the planetary gear as they rotate with the drive gear. The counterweight on the planetary gear is preferably placed as near as possible to the pitch diameter of the planetary gear so as to make its path of travel as nearly linear as possible.

  • Patent number: 3960024
Abstract: Apparatus for driving detaching rollers in textile combing machines. The pilgrim step motion cycle of the detaching rollers is created by the combination of a constant rotational motion, transmitted by a driving source by way of a power transmission mechanism involving a differential gear mechanism, and a modified variable rotational motion cycle, transmitted by the differential gear mechanism. In the mechanism for creating the above-mentioned variable rotational motion, a first link motion mechanism, which is actuated by the driving source, creates a basic variable rotational motion cycle; and a second link motion mechanism, which is actuated by the output of the first link motion mechanism, adjusts the characteristic feature of the basic variable rotational motion cycle. The output of the second link motion mechanism is imparted to the differential gear mechanism as the modified variable rotational motion cycle.
