  • Patent number: 4298183
Abstract: A main body has a partition wall provided in the interior of the main body and a communication hole formed in the wall. A valve body is disposed in the main body to be movable between a first position and a second position. At the first position the valve body closes the hole, and at the second position the valve body opens the hole. A spring urges the valve body into the second position. An operating lever is connected in a universal-joint fashion to the main body. A cam is formed on the lever and slidably contact with a cam contact element disposed on the valve body in a position away from a plane including a center axis of the main body. A pair of grooves are formed on the lever at each side of the cam and extend along the plane. A pair of projections are provided on the valve body and inserted into the grooves. When the lever is rotated in one or the other direction in the plane by an external force, the valve body is moved between the first and the second position by the action of the cam.

  • Patent number: 4296643
Abstract: A motorcycle throttle gripper having two friction levers with one friction lever positioned below the throttle grip hand control and closely mounted brake lever hand control and with one friction lever positioned above the throttle grip hand control and closely mounted brake lever hand control. On each of the two friction levers a rounded concave offset section seats on and grips the throttle grip hand control roughly similar to an external brake band or segment of a brake band around a brake drum or wheel. Also, on each of the two friction levers a straight section is mounted in sliding contact with the forward brake lever hand control. On the three embodiments of the invention the upper and lower friction levers are held in friction contact to the throttle grip hand control and the brake lever hand control by means of tension producing rubber bands, elastic members, or by means of tension producing springs, bolts, and self locking nuts.

  • Patent number: 4275867
Abstract: A disc-type valve assembly and method of making same. The assembly includes a valve body having a flowway with a disc-like valve element therein. A shaft has an inner portion directly rigidly connected to the valve element by a pre-stressed self-connection and an outer portion rotatably mounted in the valve body. A handle is directly rigidly connected to the outer portion of the shaft by a pre-stressed self-connection whereby the handle and shaft form a rotating body. A positioning sleeve is interposed in tight pre-stressed relation between the valve body and the rotating body for preventing relative rotation between the bodies under torque loads below a pre-determined magnitude, the positioning sleeve being yieldable under torque loads greater than or equal to that magnitude to permit such rotation.

  • Patent number: 4273005
Abstract: A steering column assembly having upper and lower telescoping shaft sections, a jacket surrounding the upper shaft section and an extensible deforming member surrounding the jacket and connected at one end thereto. • Patent number: 4266441
Abstract: A positioning device with a pivotable positioning member. The positioning member comprises a guide lug spaced from and parallel to its pivot axis, the guide lug having a head portion which may be introduced into an enlarged end of a guideway in a support but which maintains the positioning member parallel to the pivot axis. An abutment prevents the guide lug from re-entering the enlarged end of the guideway. A strip integrally formed with the positioning member has a protruding portion which bears against one side of the support tensioning the strip. The pivotal mounting is afforded by co-operable detents including a pivot pin (e.g. on the support) with a tapered end which snaps into an aperture defined by a pair of integrally formed flexible strips (e.g. on the positioning member). The oblong aperture permits the pivot pin to shift therein as the pointer at the other end of the positioning member undergoes substantially rectilinear displacement.

  • Patent number: 4238164
Abstract: An externally threaded mandrel extends from one end of the inner tube of a pair of telescoping tubes and is staked thereto. A trifurcated collet threads on the mandrel whereby a conical exterior surface on the mandrel cooperates with a conical interior surface of the collet. Longitudinal ridges on the inner surface of the outer tube interlock with longitudinal grooves on the collet preventing relative motion between the outer tube and the collet while permitting longitudinal translation of the outer tube relative to the inner tube. Rotation of the inner tube in one direction advances the mandrel into the collet, with the interacting conical surfaces driving the furcate segments of the collet outward against the inner wall of the outer tube until a tight fit is produced. Friction between the collet and tube wall locks the tubes together. Reverse rotation of the inner tube withdraws the mandrel and releases the outer tube from the grip of the collet segments. The collet is made of a resilient plastic material.

Abstract: Apparatus is provided for adjustable mounting a steering column in a vehicle, whereby the column may be telescoped, tilted or both, simultaneously, by unlocking the mechanism with a single handle. The mechanism includes a pair of side frames fixed within the vehicle, and an inner tube fixed to the column and movable between the side frames. When the handle is turned to lock the mechanism, the clamping portion of the mechanism draws the slide adjusters toward the inner tube, forcing the generally heart-shaped slides toward the inner tube and biasing them away from the longitudinal axis of the mechanism. This movement of the slides forces the pin connecting each opposite pair of slides into engagement with both the front frictional surface of the inner tube and with the outer surface of the slot within which the particular pin travels, thereby trapping and frictionally holding the inner tube relative to the side frames.

Abstract: In a fastening device for a tiltable steering wheel assembly, the locking lever of the device is set in the locked position beyond the rotary dead point of a rotary cam element pivoted on a fastening bolt so as to firmly hold the steering column tube assembly at a desired angle with respect to the driver. The locking lever is positioned substantially parallel with respect to the steering column tube assembly in the locked position to prevent unexpected release of the locking lever by the driver's legs.

Abstract: The knob comprises a body which cannot turn the control shaft unless the body is first pushed in. A brake prevents turning of the knob body when the body is in normal condition. Upon pushing the body rearwardly, the brake is disengaged to allow turning of the knob. Upon releasing the body, spring means projects the body forwardly back to normal condition in which the brake prevents the body from turning. Spring pressed balls allow the body to turn without turning the control shaft upon exerting excessive torque on the body to thereby prevent damage to the controls. Means is provided to limit turning of the control shaft to a predetermined angle.

  • Patent number: 3998315
Abstract: The printer records images in the form of dots on electrical discharge-sensitive paper. Three groups of five styli are mounted on a rotor. The paper is in strip form and is fed continuously through a curved guide in a direction perpendicular to the plane of rotation of the rotor, so that the paper is wrapped part way around the rotor as it moves past. Characters are formed from a five dot by seven dot matrix. This invention provides means for automatically retracting the styli away from the paper when the rotational speed of the rotor drops below a pre-determined minimum level and, of course, when the rotor stops. This facilitates removal of the rotor from the printer, and also facilitates feeding a new strip of paper into the printer. Means also are provided for adjusting the axial position of each group of styli merely by turning one or more screws. The screws are easily accessible without removing the rotor.
