Crank, Pitman, And Crank Patents (Class 74/67)
  • Patent number: 10112682
Abstract: Employing a set of open gears in a bicycle drivetrain allows disengaging the connection between the crank arms and the driven wheel. When the fold axis passes approximately through the mesh plane between the aforementioned gears, and said axis is offset from the center plane of the gears in the direction of the fold by at least one-half the gear width, by design even a small angular displacement around the fold axis opens instantly producing a gap between the gears that increases as the fold proceeds, thus breaking and disengaging the connection between the crank arms and driven wheel, thus leaving the displacement of the fold to complete its angular cycle without regard or interference from the newly separated drivetrain. In its folded configuration, the bicycle can roll backwards, forwards, and spin or pirouette on its own axis.

Abstract: The invention relates to the field of mechanical engineering and is designed to transmit torque from a driving shaft to a driven shaft. The device consists of eccentrics, secured in a number of not less than three to each of the shafts, and cable-type connecting rods. The eccentrics may be mounted at equal intervals or, in order to reduce vibrations, offset by up to 50 degrees of angular rotation. The cable-type connecting rods connect via bearings the eccentrics of the driving and driven shafts and operate solely in tension. The use of cable-type connecting rods makes it possible to increase the specific loads, which leads to a reduction in weight of the connecting rods and counterweights. From four to twelve eccentrics are secured to each of the shafts in order to increase the uniformity of torque transmission to the driven shaft.

  • Patent number: 8402851
Abstract: Under control of rotation of a crankshaft 41, a friction roller 32 is pressed against a friction roller 31 in a radial direction, so as to achieve torque transmission between the rollers 31, 32. An inter-roller radial pressing reaction is canceled as an internal force in bearing supports 23, 25, with no input to a housing 11. The reaction causes a radial displacement of a bearing-fitting portion provided with inner and outer bearings 21, 42 in double layer arrangement, wherein the radial displacement is larger than that of a bearing-fitting portion provided with a bearing 18, 19, 22 in single arrangement, so as to cause unbalanced contact between rollers 31, 32. In order to prevent this, support stiffness of bearing support 23 against the inter-friction-roller radial pressing reaction is set higher than that of bearing support 25.

  • Patent number: 7870802
Abstract: An engine-flywheel hybrid in which the engine power is varied mainly by the frequency of power cycles, not by the power per power cycle. The flywheel absorbs the energy from the power cycles and delivers energy. The rotary stop start mechanism stops and starts a crankshaft efficiently with minimal energy loss. This is accomplished by varying the offset of a double crank four bar linkage. The invention allows an engine's flywheel to be quickly be brought up to speed in about a half of a revolution, followed by combustion, expansion, and stopped one revolution after starting. Further, utilizing offset, the engine crankshaft will turn faster than the input shaft when the piston is at top dead center, shortening the time of highest heat transfer, making the engine more efficient. Also, that when used as an auto engine, the part load efficiency would be near the maximum efficiency of the engine, nearly doubling the miles per gallon of the auto.
