  • Patent number: 5894756
Abstract: A governor system is provided for engine starter mechanisms to prevent a premature retracting movement of a single-direction rotatable clutch. The governor system is constructed with a reduced number of parts and such that a clutch does not suffer from the increased angular momentum as it rotates together with a governor weight. The governor system includes a casing or a bracket fixed to a driven gear, with the governor weight received in the casing. The governor weight is provided with a first and a second weight portion which are different in weight from each other such that the center of gravity of the governor weight is disposed radially eccentric.

  • Patent number: 5844336
Abstract: In a starter (1) for an internal combustion engine including a planetary gear type reduction gear unit (2) and a housing (17) for accommodating at least the reduction gear unit (2), a recess (51) is formed at a lower part (17a) of the housing (17) in an installed state of the starter (1) in a manner that the recess (51) is formed in an inner periphery of the housing (17) so as to define a drain passage (51) extending substantially axially, and a part (52) of an outer periphery of a first annular member (12), which constitutes a part of the reduction gear unit (2), protrudes into the recess (51). Thus, the protruding part (52) of the outer periphery of the first annular member (12) forms a labyrinth structure in the drain passage (51) defined by the recess (51) formed in the inner periphery of the housing (17), to thereby effectively prevent water from entering the housing (17) through the drain passage (51) without substantially impeding the passage of water from the housing (17) to the outside.

  • Patent number: 5818118
Abstract: In an engine starter comprising a pinion slidably fitted on the output shaft for driving a ring gear of an engine that is to be started, and a one-way clutch having a first end secured to the pinion and a second end which is engaged by the output shaft via spline means, a compression coil spring is interposed between a stopper secured to the output shaft and an annular shoulder defined in a cylindrical extension of the second end of the one-way clutch. Therefore, even when the pinion is forced into a high speed rotation by the engine which has been started by the engine starter, the pinion simply rotates freely, and no friction is applied to the compression coil spring or the stopper.

  • Patent number: 5357963
Abstract: The invention relates to a magnetic drive device enabling a member placed one side of a non-magnetic wall to be driven by a rotary drive shaft placed on the other side of the wall. The driven member is mounted to rock about an oscillation axis orthogonal to the axis of rotation of the drive shaft and carries an axially-magnetized magnet whose outside surface has a right cross-section in the plane containing the oscillation axis and the axis of rotation of the drive shaft that is in the form of a circle centered on the oscillation axis. The drive shaft carries an axially-magnetized magnet offset from the axis of the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 5121646
Abstract: The invention relates to the driving mechanism of multi-action doll. The driving mechanism comprises an eccentric roller, a cross-shaped driving component and several driving gears. The cross-shaped driving component has a rectangular hole which accommodates the eccentric roller which moves the cross-shaped driving component back and forth in a linear direction when the roller rotates in the hole. The cross-shaped driving component has racks that mesh with and rotate the driving gears when the driving component is moved by the eccentric roller. Rotation of the gears also rotates shafts on the gears which convey motion to selected portions of a moveable doll.

  • Patent number: 4135409
Abstract: A stepless speed change gear for bicycles and the like. A device is disclosed wherein a rotary input is converted to reciprocating motion by a rack and pinion, the rack is mounted at the end of a lever which is oscillated; an arm is mounted on the lever, connecting it to a rod which is driven in alternating rotary directions; the rod is connected to the output shaft by two ratchets driven in alternate directions by said rod, said ratches are geared to said output shaft in such a way that the output is a continuous rotary motion. The speed change mechanism being that said arm is slidably mounted on said lever and rod so that the nearer the arm is drawn to the end of the lever on which said rack is mounted the greater is the oscillating motion imparted and the greater is the subsequent angle through which the rod is rotated.

  • Patent number: 4063465
Abstract: Mechanism for feeding a picture slide magazine in such a way that picture slides can be taken out of the magazine in the same order in which they are placed in the magazine, for delivery to two separate projector units of a dual slide projector, and then can be returned to the magazine still in proper order. Two indexing gears rotate in opposite directions about a common axis of rotation. Each gear carries index pins or projections which cooperate with a star wheel or modified Geneva gear as the indexing gears rotate, and the star wheel or Geneva gear drives two pinions which engage a toothed rack on the slide magazine. As two indexing pins located relatively close to each other on one indexing gear pass the star wheel, they rotate the star wheel through two increments, to feed the magazine through two steps in one direction.
