  • Patent number: 8590428
Abstract: A laparoscopic scissors, comprising a pair of blades connected at a pivot, each of the blades having a length, a tip portion, a body portion, an outer surface, an inner surface and a cutting edge is provided. The tip portion may have a first body thickness and the body portion may have a second body thickness different from the first body thickness. During the cutting operation, the blades progressively move over each other to provide a point contact along the cutting edges. In another aspect of the invention, a process of manufacturing the pair of scissors of the invention is disclosed, comprising the steps of forming the blades into a desired shape with wire EDM processes from a pre-hardened block of material, and sharpening the cutting edges of the blades.

  • Patent number: 7963192
Abstract: Surgical scissors are provided having two scissor blades mounted for pivotal movement relative to each other about a pivot axis and having one cutting edge each. The scissor blades have, proximal of the pivot axis, one sliding surface area each, the sliding surface areas sliding along each other and the scissor blades contacting each other distally of the pivot axis at a moving point of contact of the cutting edges sliding along each other when the scissors are opened and closed. At least one of the cutting edges is provided with a hard material coating, and at least one of the two sliding surface areas have a first hard material coating-free surface. A method for the manufacture of surgical scissors is also proposed.

  • Publication number: 20100005929
Abstract: The invention is directed to a pair of laparoscopic scissors, comprising a pair of blades connected at a pivot, each of the blades having a length, a tip portion, a body portion, an outer surface, an inner surface and a cutting edge, the cutting edge forming an angle with the outer surface along the length of the blade such that tension during a cutting operation at the tip portion is about the same as tension at the body portion during the cutting operation. The angle formed may be greater at the tip portion which continuously decreases over the length of the blade. The tip portion may have a first body thickness and the body portion may have a second body thickness different from the first body thickness. During the cutting operation, the blades progressively move over each other to provide a point contact along the cutting edges.

  • Patent number: 7322262
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for manufacturing barber scissors (1), wherein the scissor blades (23, 33) are pre-shaped from blanks by a predetermined degree of curvature in the direction facing away from the edge. This is followed by a step of welding on a hard metal material in the form of a welding bead on respective mutually facing faces of the scissor blades (23, 33) in order to form the edges (24, 34), wherein the preliminary curvature of the scissor blades (23, 33) is neutralized owing to the influence of heat during the welding process. Subsequently the welding beads are ground so as to form the edges (24, 34), and the scissor halves (2, 3) are pre-set and hardened. Then the barber scissors (1) are hard-set in the assembled condition. The invention furthermore relates to barber scissors (1) having such a configuration.

  • Patent number: 6966115
Abstract: Pruning scissors comprise a blade and a counter-blade each integral with a grip and mounted so as to be pivoted around a threaded swivel pin cooperating with an adjusting nut of the blade and counter-blade. The nut is rotationally integral with a toothed wheel meshed with a retainer toothed member attached to the pruning scissors counter-blade through a blocking screw. The toothed wheel has an axial opening whose outline corresponds to the external outline of the adjusting nut and is adapted to be inserted around the nut. The retainer toothed member is a toothed gear and the toothed wheel and the toothed gear comprise a respective complementary device adapted to retain the toothed wheel around the nut against any axial movement when the gear is meshed with the toothed wheel.

  • Patent number: 6367533
Abstract: A cut-off blade assembly including a thin metal blade having an attachment portion by which the cut-off blade assembly can be attached to a dispenser, and a plurality of projecting similarly shaped triangular primary teeth. The triangular primary teeth each have two sides terminating in points and have bases adjacent the attachment portion that are aligned in a first direction along the blade so that their points project generally at right angles to that first direction. Edge surfaces on the sides and at the points of the primary teeth intersect a major surface of the primary teeth at an included angle of no greater than about 90 degrees to define a cutting edge at that intersection. The cut-off blade assembly further includes projections along one major surface of the primary teeth.
