  • Patent number: 8151669
Abstract: A method and device for producing band saw blades, particularly for the timber-processing industry. A blank band saw blade is produced from a metal band, such as a metal band that can be stored on a roll. Several metal bands are combined into a flush metal band packet which can be introduced into a saw band grinding machine. The metal bands are pressed onto a planar guide. The metal band packet is clamped and a grinding machine operates to produce a desired saw tooth profile. A pawl is introduced into a tooth profile which is ground into the metal band packet. The clamped metal band packet is then loosened and advanced with a predetermined tooth spacing.

  • Patent number: 6631658
Abstract: A band saw profiling machine includes an indexing mechanism having a feed finger mechanically linked to a caliper finger for reciprocating movement therewith. The caliper finger is urged toward the feed finger during an indexing movement of the indexing mechanism to measure the spacing between adjacent teeth of a band saw blade on-the-fly and concurrently with advancement and sharpening of the saw blade. The tooth spacing measurement is then used in the band saw sharpening machine to provide feedback for a subsequent indexing movement of the indexing mechanism, to accurately position the band saw blade for sharpening of a row of teeth. A control unit of the sharpening machine accepts input of shape factors from an operator that define the pattern of motion of the indexing mechanism, the grinding wheel, or both, for sharpening of irregular tooth shapes.

  • Patent number: 5101690
Abstract: A top and face grinder for a circular saw blade includes an indexing apparatus which interposes a stop into the path of the teeth of the saw blade from a position laterally displaced from the plane of the saw blade. This stops rotation of the blade and permits a grinding operation to take place. At the end of the grinding operation the stop is retracted to permit continued rotation of the saw blade. The grinding stroke position of the grinding wheel is adjusted by rotating a cam which passes through the fulcrum of a rocker arm providing reciprocal motion for the grinding wheel.

  • Patent number: 5088358
Abstract: An automatic dual-side saw blade grinding machine includes a common actuator to advance the saw blade to place subsequent teeth in position for grinding and to clamp the saw blade to prevent side-by-side movement during grinding. Thus, no adjustment is required to synchronize the timing between blade rotation and clamping. The actuator is a double-acting two-sided pneumatic piston cylinder which has one end attached directly to the clamping mechanism and the other end attached to the spindle that carries the saw blade through a push-pull cable and a linkage that converts linear motion to rotary motion. The linkage is adjustable to accommodate saw blades having different tooth spacing. The piston cylinder is actuated by an air valve that is cycled by a cam driven by the motor that cycles the blade grinding wheels. Accordingly, machine speed can be changed simply by changing the motor speed.

  • Patent number: 4584910
Abstract: A grinding machine for grinding the cutters in left- and right-hand cutter links in saw chain. A pair of grinding wheel assemblies disposed on opposite sides of a saw chain support are actuated in turns to bring the wheels in the assemblies into a cutter link positioned on the saw chain support. Indexing structure positions the saw chain with a cutter link occupying a grinding station while supported on the chain support.

  • Patent number: 4499794
Abstract: An apparatus for machining circular saw blades and more particularly to the transport means for conveying workpieces to the machining stations of the apparatus. In accordance with the invention, the storage capability of the apparatus is accomplished by subdividing the conveying means into a work path leading through the machining stations; a return path leading through a feeding and discharging station; two branch paths wherein an endless conveyor is arranged only along the work path and associated with the branch paths there are shifting means capable of shifting a work piece carriage from the branch path to the return path; and that on the return path, work piece carriages are maintained at smaller distances than those of the endless conveyor whereby the storage capacity of the apparatus is increased. The apparatus is also adjustable to feed a plurality of different saw diameters for machining.

  • Patent number: 4483217
Abstract: A saw blade (10) is supported on a saw blade carriage (14) adapted to be adjusted by an adjusting drive means (18) along a carriage guide means (16) and cooperating with a distance measuring means (26,28,30). A sensor means (34) is disposed in the path of movement of the saw blade (10) and emits signals in response to the position of a front edge portion of the saw blade (10) extending transversely of the carriage guide means (16). The adjusting drive means (18) is controlled by these signals and stopped at a predetermined nominal position of the front edge portion of the saw blade (10). In this manner the saw blade (10) positioning is effected automatically and the positioning accomplished permits a conclusion to be drawn with respect to the diameter of the saw blade (10) so that no separate measurement thereof is required.
