Each sharpening member includes a counterweight portion below its pivot and a sharpening portion above its pivot. A cutting blade is placed in the slot and moved lengthwise and downwardly. The downward movement causes the vertex of the V-shaped slot to move down, but the slot's vertex angle remains substantially constant because the curvatures of the sharpening edges increase progressively from upper regions to lower regions of the sharpening edges. The centers of gravity of the sharpening members are laterally inboard of the pivots, and the sharpening edges are higher than the pivots. The sharpening forces exerted by the sharpening edges against a cutting blade increase in response to downward movement of the slot vertex.

Two radially-extending set screws extend through the pivot wheels and engage a flat surface of the pivot pin to hold the pivot wheels on the pivot pins.     Abstract: A sheet metal edging file comprises a frame with a base and two side arms which extend upwardly. The side arms are formed in a generally planar configuration with an inner surface, an outer surface, parallel short end edges and parallel long side edges. The side arms also have an upper region and a lower region, with one short side of each side arm being contiguous with the upper surface of the base. The upper region of each side arm also includes a centrally located aperture extending therethrough. The plane of the side arms are angled at an acute angle with respect to the axis of the base. Two file wheels are formed in a planar, generally circular configuration with a centrally located circular aperture extending therethrough. Each wheel has an inner surface and an outer surface and includes a plurality of blades on its inner surface. The blades extend radially outward from the central aperture to a location proximate to its outer edge. The wheels are positioned to oppose each other at an acute angle.

When used it will always result in a ski ,edge which is smooth and burr free. The sharpening members will make a proper bevel edge angle no matter what direction the device is held.

    Abstract: A knife sharpener having a specially configured sharpening groove for sharpening knives or the like to a particularly narrow and sharp edge. The sharpener comprises a body member having a rectangular extension which has a recess for engaging the sharpening blades. The body member has grooves therein for engaging support members, one of which acts as a guard from the knife sharpening activity. A second embodiment includes the supports being angled so as to place the knife sharpener at an angle for easy access thereto. The blades are substantially triangular in shape wherein the corners of each blade are rounded, all having equivalently-sized radii. The blades are detachably attached to the body member within the recess so that the blades can be rotated or flipped for exposing additional and fresh sharpening edges.

Each broadhead sharpening surface is formed as two sections which are curved about an axis perpendicular to the direction of travel of the arrow blades so that only one line of contact is formed between a blade and its respective sharpening section, resulting in even sharpening along all the points on a blade.

    Abstract: A razor assembly for shaving, and a combination razor assembly and container for sharpening the razor, is provided. A razor body includes a blade carrier with a reusable blade. A blade guard engages the blade for guiding over the skin surface during shaving. The guard is released to freely expose the blade for cleaning/sharpening while maintaining the blade attached to the carrier. The container includes an opening for receiving the exposed blade and opposed arrays of honing shoes are provided along a path for engaging the blade during sharpening movement of the razor along the container. A guide track having guide grooves engages the blade guard to ensure accurate movement of the blade with respect to the honing shoes. One honing shoe array along one side of the path is spring biased toward the other to assure unison movement and efficient sharpening action.

    Abstract: A blade sharpener of the kind having a pair of overlapping plates which are relatively arranged to form a vee shaped sharpening recess between them. Each of the opposite sloping sides of that recess is formed by an operative edge of a respective one of the two plates, and each of those edges extends between a front face and a back face of the respective plate. A relatively sharp corner is formed between each operative edge and the back face of the respective plate, and a relatively blunt--e.g., rounded--corner is formed between each operative edge and the front face of the respective plate. The plates may be mounted on a member which can pivot between a position at which the plates tilt forward and a position at which the plates tilt back. Spring means may be operative to engage the back edge of a blade located in the recess so as to press the cutting edge of the blade against the plates.

Each slide member has an enlarged cylindrical head at one end having a diameter larger than the width of the associated track slot, with each of one pair of slide members having a rectangular foot at the other end with a width less than and a length greater than the width of the associated track slot so that it can be passed through the track slot in a mounting orientation but is locked against removal from the track slot in a use orientation.

    Abstract: A blade sharpener having a sharpening mechanism which functions to sharpen a blade engaging that mechanism and being moved longitudinally relative thereto. The sharpener also includes sharpening defeating means which, when operative, at least inhibits and possibly prevents sharpening of a blade by the sharpening mechanism when that blade is moved longitudinally through the sharpener in one direction. The defeating means is responsive to blade movement so as to adopt an operative condition when the blade is moved in the aforementioned one direction, and to adopt an inoperative condition when the blade is moved through the sharpener in the opposite direction. The defeating means includes a blade engaging member such as a roller, and in the operative condition that roller engages and presses against the cutting edge of the blade so as to impose a force on the blade which acts counter to the force causing the blade to engage the sharpening mechanism.

Essentially, the methods and apparatus are designed to initially abrade opposed surface portions of the instrument concurrently with a relatively high degree of coarseness at a relatively low included angle and thereafter concurrently abrading the opposed surface portions with progressively decreasing degrees of coarseness at progressively increasing included angles. The facets provided by the methods and apparatus on the opposed surfaces of the instrument have a surface in which the included angle decreases as the distance from the edge of the instrument increases.
