  • Patent number: 5190562
Abstract: A bleaching composition comprising a partially saturated carrier and a bleaching agent prepared by first mixing the dry carrier with the dry bleaching agent and then adding water while continuing mixing to produce a moist powder. This powder is used in a tumbler with at least partially nonsynthetic dyed fabrics to dry bleach or fade the dye from the fabrics. Specifically, the bleaching composition is a mix of potassium permanganate as the bleaching agent and diatomaceous earth as the carrier and is tumbled with the fabric to remove the dye from the fabric. The tumbling causes repeated contact with the bleaching agent and removes the dye in the fabric.

  • Patent number: 4526582
Abstract: Disclosed are novel N-(hydroxy methyl)-1-amino alkane-1,1-diphosphonic acids and N,N-Bis-(hydroxy-methyl)-1-amino alkane-1,1-diphosphonic acids, preferably N-(hydroxy methyl)-1-amino ethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid, N,N-Bis-(hydroxy methyl)-1-amino ethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid, and their water-soluble salts. Also disclosed is a method for preparing these compounds by reacting the corresponding 1-amino alkane-1,1-diphosphonic acids with formaldehyde in an alkaline medium at elevated temperature. The new phosphonic acid compounds are excellent stabilizing agents for hydrogen peroxide-containing alkaline bleaching liquors, especially useful for bleaching cellulose fibers and blends thereof with synthetic fibers, such as polyester fibers.

  • Patent number: 4369035
Abstract: Particularly uniform and rapid dyeing of textile material is achieved, subsequent to feeding the dyeing liquor into a processing container filled with the textile material and heating the dyeing liquor approximately to boiling temperature, by a gradual lowering of the container pressure by means of a regulating device and/or by supplying the dyeing liquor with heat by means of a temperature regulating arrangement, so that the dyeing liquor will be kept boiling slowly and steadily at partial evaporation, and the rising steam bubbles will agitate the dyeing liquor without requiring induced circulation by means of a pump or similar, and bring the dyeing liquor into intimate contact with the textile material. The dyeing process may be aided by a pulsating motion of the dyeing liquor. In certain instances, all energy required is supplied in the form of steam.
