Color is then developed in a second step by contacting the hair with a mixture of a peroxide compound and a persulfate salt. Surprisingly the 2-step method leads to considerable “lift” or lightening without negatively impacting the coloring ability of the oxidative dye. The invention also relates to kits providing the means to accomplish these steps.

    Abstract: Provided is a novel method of dyeing a corespun yarn which comprises an inorganic fiber core and at least a first sheath. The method comprises: (a) contacting the corespun yarn with a dye liquor; (b) heating the dye liquor to a dyeing temperature for a time effective to dye the yarn; (c) cooling the dye liquor at a controlled rate; and (d) rinsing the yarn with water or with a mixture comprising the dye liquor and water. The dyed corespun yarn has a strength retention of about 80% or more based on the undyed yarn. The methods in accordance with the invention allow for the formation of uniformly dyed, high strength corespun yarns. Also provided is a dyed, corespun yarn which can be made by the inventive method, a fabric formed from the corespun yarn, as well as a product upholstered with the fabric. The dyed yarns exhibit substantially no “grin through” and little to no yarn strength loss after dyeing.

    Abstract: The present invention is generally directed to a process for making fabrics containing cotton fibers more aesthetically pleasing and resistant to staining by anionic dyes by derivatising the cotton so that it exhibits a permanent anionic charge. By increasing the anionic charge of the fibers, the fibers become resistant to anionic coloring agents which may undesirably come into contact with the fibers. Furthermore, the negative charges repel each other resulting in a fabric with greater loft and porosity. This results in greater smoothness, better hand, and more comfort. Besides being used to prevent the cross-staining of fabrics, the present invention can also be used to make carpet materials resistant to anionic staining agents. Alternatively, it has also been discovered that an anionic derivative can be used to catalyze permanent press resins onto fabrics containing cellulosic fibers, also resulting in anionic cotton.

The two-tone or multi-colored effect is achieved by combining the treated fibers with untreated fiber and dyeing the fibers in a dyestuff having affinity for the treated fiber. The dyeing process may also include placing treated and untreated fibers in a dye bath containing dye stuffs that have affinity to treated fibers and dyestuffs that have an affinity to untreated fibers.

    Abstract: Cellulosic fabrics are rendered flame resistant in a two-step procedure by applying first a tetrakis(hydroxymethyl) phosphonium salt/urea precondensate ammoniated to crosslink and form an insoluble phosphorus-containing polymer within the fiber structure followed by treatment with a tetrakis(hydroxymethyl) phosphonium salt. The two-step process using these chemically related phorphorus-containing flame retardants provide sufficient phosphorus in and on the cellulosic fabric to impart a predetermined minimum flame resistance. Cellulosic fabrics, primarily cotton, having flame resistant properties durable to washing yet retaining pliant, nont-stiff hand result.

    Abstract: The transfer sheet or web is intended for the use in a heat transfer printing process of cotton, of cotton-polyester blend or of nitrogen containing textile fibers such as wool, silk or nylon.It comprises on its surface at least one organic impregnating agent which has a melting point between 60.degree. and 230.degree. C. and is no polymer, at least one water insoluble, non-subliming dyestuff, and the minimum amount of a binder. The dyestuff forms a pattern or image which is heat contact printed on said textile substrate without the use of carrier vapors or vacuum. The pattern to be heat transferred may also be prepared in an electrophotographic process using a new toner comprising particles of impregnating agent, binder and dyestuff.The pattern on the transfer support is transferred at a temperature between 160.degree. and 230.degree. C. during 30 to 60 seconds to said textile substrate. The printings obtained have very good light, rubbing and washing fastnesses; the handling is not impaired.

    Abstract: When silk fabrics, pre-treated with swelling agents, are printed by heat transfer techniques, the fabric will yellow. The invention eliminates yellowing by pre-treating said silk fabrics with a liquid or solid impregnating agent, dissolved or dispersed in water, then drying the fabric, and adding before, during or after the pre-treating an optical brightening agent of the type normally used for polyester.The impregnating agent can alternatively be applied to the fabric in a water-free condition before or during dyestuff transfer, and an optical brightener may be added.It is further contemplated to use easily migrating dyestuffs which are transferred to the fabric at relatively very low temperatures, and to avoid dyestuff migration by pre-treating the silk fabric with solid impregnating agents.All these techniques produce deep and brilliant shades; the prints have excellent fastnesses.
