    Abstract: This invention relates to improved methods and compositions to enhance stain resistance of carpet fiber. The improved methods relate to a continuous aftertreatment for dyed carpet fabric and to two-step processes, either batch-batch, batch-continuous or continuous-continuous. The improved compositions are used in the processes to enhance stain resistance of carpet or carpet fiber and to overcome various prior drawbacks, such as, yellowing, oxidation and durability to cleaning. The sulfonated aromatic condensates are used to enhance stain resistance, and can be combined with fluorocarbon compounds for soil resistance, thiocyanates, and/or salts having divalent cations, such as magnesium sulfate. Also various dispersing agents, buffering acids and sequestering agents are disclosed.

    Abstract: The invention is a process for dyeing polyamide substrates comprising anionic and cationic fibers in multi-colored patterns. Cross-staining or dyeing of the cationic fibers by the anionic-dyeable nylon colorant is avoided. The anionic dyeable fiber portion is dyed with a fiber-reactive vinyl sulfone dye having one or more sulfonic acid substituents and one or more vinyl sulfone groups with the proviso that the sum of the number of sulfonic acid and vinyl sulfone substituents is at least three. The dyeing process is conducted at a pH of about 2 to about 4. Optionally the cationic portion of the substrate may be dyed with a basic dye in admixture with the vinyl sulfone dye.

    Abstract: This is a method for producing multi-colored polyamide dyeings which is particularly useful in the multi-colored dyeing of polyamide carpets. In this method, a three-component dyeing system is employed which comprises a fiber reactive dye, an anionic resist and an acid-type dye. The anionic resist is a water-soluble, fiber substantative compound which displaces and/or prevents the fiber-reactive dye form fixing in that portion of the carpet which has been treated with the resist. The anionic resist, however, will not displace the acid-type dye component nor does it prevent fixation of the acid-type dye component. The invention may be practiced by first printing the polyamide substrate in a predetermined pattern with a printing paste containing the acid-type dye and the anionic resist. The substrate is then flooded or blotch printed with the fiber reactive dye and steamed to fix the dyes. Alternatively, the substrate may be first flooded or blotch printed with the fiber reactive dye.

    Abstract: A process of decorating fabric includes the step of imparting wrinkles to the fabric oblique to the warp and weft directions and heat setting the wrinkles into the fabric. The wrinkle imparting step may include moving the fabric longitudinally and simultaneously moving portions of the fabric from side to side by frictionally engaging the fabric to an oscillating means such as an elastomeric pad or interleaved fingers and oscillating the pad or fingers from side to side. Heat setting of the fabric includes exposing the wrinkled fabric to heat at a sufficient temperature and for a sufficient duration to set the wrinkles in the fabric. Desirably, the wrinkled fabric is in contact with a transfer print paper while the fabric passes through the heat setting step to set the wrinkles and fix color on the fabric. The longitudinal movement is desirably coordinated with the side to side movement to obtain aesthetically pleasing results. The invention also includes apparatus and the product.

    Abstract: A disperse dye composition comprising (a) a pyridone monoazo compound of the formula (I), ##STR1## wherein X.sup.1 and X.sup.2 are each hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or others, and R.sup.1 is alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl or anilino, and (b) a pyridone monoazo compound of the formula (II). ##STR2## wherein X.sup.3 and X.sup.4 are each hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or others, and R.sup.2 is alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl or anilino, optionally together with (c) a quinophthalone compound of the formula (III), ##STR3## wherein Y is hydrogen or bromine, and the ring A is unsubstituted or substituted benzene or naphthalene ring, which is useful as a yellow dye component for dyeing or printing hydrophobic fiber materials with superior dye bath stability and level dyeing property.

    Abstract: An improved sublimation transfer process for printing color images on elastomer-coated fabric such as woven nylon is disclosed. The improved process includes a preliminary step in which a transfer sheet having sublimable dyes placed thereon is subjected to a pretreatment to condition it so as to avoid ghost images or haziness that would otherwise result when applying such process to elastomeric coated material. The pretreatment is carried out by placing the dye-containing transfer sheet in contact with a sheet of absorbent paper and heating this assembly under specified conditions to cause excess dyes to be conveyed into the absorbent sheet. The resulting dye-containing absorbent sheet is then removed, and printing may be carried out using known process conditions. The improved process is particularly useful for printing multicolor images on the back side of Velcro hook and loop tapes.
