  • Patent number: 4964320
Abstract: A method of forming a beaded transfixion wire for orthopedic uses. The beaded transfixion wire includes an elongated wire formed of an implant grade material. A bead is provided on the elongated wire intermediate the opposite ends thereof. The bead extends outwardly beyond the outer surface of the elongated wire and is integral therewith. In forming the beaded transfixion wire the solid bar stock is rotatably fed past a cutting tool to turn down a portion of the bar stock to a selected daiameter to provide a first portion of an elongated wire. The first portion of the elongated wire is fed into a tube for stabilizing the first portion against any whipping motion. The solid bar stock is continued to be rotated past the cutting tool while at the same time a bead is profiled from the solid bar stock with the cutting tool.

  • Patent number: 4939966
Abstract: An arrangement for mounting a power-operated clamping device for workpieces or tools on a hollow machine-tool spindle in which is disposed a securing rod that is adapted to be coupled with a drive member of the respectively mounted clamping device, and that is adapted to be actuated by a hydraulic or pressurized cylinder secured to the rear end of the spindle. Secured to a flange on the front end of the spindle is an intermediate ring to which the body of the clamping device is adapted to be secured via at least two securing pins. To provide a structurally straightforward design that requires no additional pressure medium cylinder, the securing pins are secured to the clamping device body and are axially oriented, with each securing pin being provided with a notch that has a tightening surface. Key rods are displaceably guided in the intermediate ring, with each key rod having a key that is introducible into a respective notch of the securing pins.

  • Patent number: 4924738
Abstract: A bar puller is provided having adjustable jaws comprising fingers made of a resilient material. The fingers extend forward from a housing adapted to be mounted at a tool station of a computer numerically controlled lathe having a turret. Front and side guiding surfaces are provided on the ends of the fingers to cause the jaws to deflect outwardly and grip a bar when forcibly engaged therewith. The lathe chuck releases the bar allowing the bar puller to withdraw the end of the bar a desired distance out of the chuck. The chuck is closed while the turret continues moving away from the chuck causing the bar to be withdrawn from between the jaws of the bar puller, readying the machine for its next cycle.

  • Patent number: 4889024
Abstract: The device comprises a sectional carrier of closed cross section with a circular bed, a base and channels of distribution and return of oil. A guiding element comprising at least one guiding tube enclosing a bar stock to be machined and a push-piston is removably secured on the bed. The distribution channel communicates through radial openings with the guiding element for delivering to the latter oil under pressure which creates a hydrodynamic bearing supporting the bar stock when the latter is set into rotation by the head stock of the lathe. The sectional carrier has a great rigidity and stability which permits very high speeds of rotation of the bar stock to be machined. The return of oil by closed channels of the sectional carrier is protected against external contamination by impurities or dust.
