  • Patent number: 4890523
Abstract: A cutter head releasably mounted on a tool holder and to be fitted with an exchangeable cutting insert while the tool holder is adapted to be secured to a lathe or the like; a substantially U-shaped bushing being articulatedly mounted in a recess formed in an end of the cutter head so as to define a receiver socket adapted to receive an engaging head of a drawbar longitudinally displaceable within the tool holder; the arrangement being such that with the engaging head of the drawbar located in said receiver socket, a traction force exerted on the drawbar results in transverse abutting surfaces of the bushing being displaced into a clamping abutment with corresponding transverse abutment surfaces formed on the tool holder.

  • Patent number: 4879930
Abstract: A rotationally symmetrical tool assembly includes a first component constituted by a tool holder; a second component constituted by a tool head and being removably attached to the first component such that engagement faces of the first and second components are in a contacting relationship with one another and are oriented perpendicularly to the rotary axis of the tool assembly. A fitting bore is provided in one of the components and a guide bore is provided in the other of the components. A securing pin projects from the fitting bore and extends into the guide bore for determining and maintaining a desired angular position of the second component relative to the first component.

  • Patent number: 4875397
Abstract: A recess attachment with preset quick change tooling for use on a multiple spindle automatic machine includes a base formed and adapted to be mounted at a work station on an automatic machine. The base is movable in a defined direction during a machining operation and has a slide mounting surface in a plane forming a small acute angle with the direction of movement. A slide is positioned on the slide mounting surface and there are springs attached to the base and the slide inhibiting relative movement therebetween. A tool holder is removably mounted on the slide and there is an adjustment member positioned on the tool holder and a cooperating stop on the slide. The tool holder has a tool receiving opening and there are means for fastening a cutting tool in the opening. The base and slide move in unison to a precutting position.

  • Patent number: 4843929
Abstract: A tool is clamped to a holder by a clamping mechanism carried by the holder. The clamping mechanism includes a plurality of clamping jaws having longitudinally extending shanks. The clamping jaws are actuated by a longitudinally reciprocable drawbar carried by the holder. The jaws are normally spring-biased to laterally inward, non-clamping positions and are actuated to a clamping position by means of a longitudinally movable drawbar carried by the holder. Actuation of the jaws occurs in a two-phase operation. In an initial phase, the shanks are displaced laterally outwardly so as to overlie a shoulder of the tool. In a subsequent phase, the shank is moved longitudinally into contact with the tool shoulder to clamp the tool against the holder.
