Templet Controlled Patents (Class 82/17)
  • Patent number: 5816123
Abstract: A machine tool which is a template tracing attachment which significantly reduces the slack or hysteresis in the operation of a machinist's lathe. Optical or magnetic scales and respective sensors assist in the accuracy of producing workpieces from a template. The accurate reproduction of a workpiece can be manual or computer assisted. The attachment can be retrofitted or included in the production of a lathe.

  • Patent number: 5221234
Abstract: A cutting device and method for its operation are utilized to apply variably canted threads to a screw blank. A conventional cutting lathe is provided with a conventional hydraulically operated adjustable cutting support attached thereto. A guide plate is generally mounted upon the lathe adjacent the armature, which is guided therealong to produce a particular pattern in the workpiece. The armature is pivotable to permit cutting at particular angles into the surface of a workpiece. A secondary guide is utilized in producing a controlled variable pivot of the cutting armature during its progression along the body of the workpiece. The secondary guide is rigidly mounted to the adjustable cutting armature and precisely controls its movement during the cutting operation, producing a cutting operation having dual movement characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5067534
Abstract: The invention concerns a spindle drive for a veneer lathe. In view of reducing the mobile masses of the drive gear equipment making the lathe better adaptable to different log lengths, the opposite spindles in the lathe are provided with drive motors of their own. In the preferred embodiment, the rotor of the motor is mounted directly on the spindle and the stator is mounted on a frame unit displaceable on guides. The motor may be an electric motor provided with speed regulation, or it may be a hydraulic motor.

  • Patent number: 4719829
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming tapered surfaces on male and female parts to be interfitted one within the other along the complementary tapered surfaces thereof wherein the male part is mounted on the chuck of a lathe wherein the chuck axis extends along the centerline of the lathe, the tool on the lathe is mounted for movement at an angle to the longitudinal centerline of the lathe, and the external surface of the male part is cut while rotating the part in one direction to provide a tapered surface by moving the cutting tool along a line extending at the angle. The male part is removed from the chuck and the female part is mounted on the chuck. The cutting tool is moved transversely of the lathe without changing the angle or vertical position of the cutting edge, and the internal surface of the female part is cut by moving the same cutting tool along a path parallel to the first-mentioned path of the tool while rotating the female part in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4265150
Abstract: A variable follower rest for a lathe for supporting tapered shafts and similar shafts of varying diameter as they are being turned. The follower rest includes a bearing arm above and another bearing diametrically opposite to the cutting tool to resist the lift and thrust of the cutting tool against the shaft. Through master-slave actuators the bearing arms move towards and away from the center of the shaft in unison with corresponding movements of the cutting tool to always engage the shaft as the diameter of the shaft varies.

  • Patent number: 4165661
Abstract: A cam controlled contour turning, facing, and boring machine tool having a frame on which a first slide is mounted for reciprocable movements along a generally horizontal path and a second slide mounted on the first slide for movements with the latter and for lateral movements relative to the first slide either normal to or at an inclination of less than 90.degree. to the path of movement on the first slide. On the frame is mounted supporting means for one or more workpieces and on the second slide is mounted tooling engageable with the workpieces. The movements of the slides are effected by two cams, one of which controls the movements of the first slide and the other of which controls the movements of the second slide, the cams being rotated simultaneously by driving means mounted on the first slide.

  • Patent number: 4062256
Abstract: A cross slide turning tool holder has a body with a mounting post passing from top to bottom therethrough, the body having first and second members pivotally attached by the mounting post, the first member having "L" shape with a leg of the "L" horizontal below the second member and another leg of the "L" upright at an end of the second member and threadedly carrying a pair of screws bearing on the second member as angle adjusters, and adjustment block is carried in a dovetail in the second member with a portion extending into a groove where a spring laterally biases it, a roller has attachment for urging the adjustment block, which adjustment block has an upright dovetail structure slidably carrying a tool holding block which has a vertical adjustment setting provision. Embodiments provide for respective direct and reverse motion.

  • Patent number: 3972251
Abstract: An adjustable template for a lathe has a pair of pivotable arms extending from a circular or partially circular center post which are disposed so that the edge of each arm lies tangential to the circumference forming a pattern for the stylus of the automatic feed to trace whereby the cutting tool machines two angles with respect to the center line and a radius therebetween in the workpiece. Adjustment of the arms determines the angles and the diameter of the stylus determines the radius.
