  • Patent number: 5353669
Abstract: A system is disclosed for manufacturing fully mitered step lap transformer cores which are formed from separate sheets which are laid face to face to form the separate pieces of the core. The system includes an X-shaped shear arrangement including four blades lying on an X-shape and meeting at a center point. Upstream of the X-shear is provided a hole punch so the punched hole can be moved to the center point of the X-shear and any two, three or four of the blades actuated to provide a required shape in the material to be cut. The X-shear allows the formation sequentially of all of the five sheets necessary for the core and then these are stacked simultaneously by a lifting carriage which lifts each sheet in turn while orienting it properly relative to the other sheets carried to form a single layer of the core which is then deposited upon a stacking table.

  • Patent number: 5292047
Abstract: A universal movable upper tool for a waste-stripping station situated within a machine designed for die-cutting sheet or web-like matter to be converted into packages includes a tool with a rectangular lower plate provided with apertures. Push-rods destined to push waste material through corresponding openings of a perforated upper plate forming a lower tool of the station are fitted against a lower side of the upper plate with the help of quick-fitting means situated on the upper plate's upper surface. Sponge rubber pressers are fitted against a lower side of the upper plate by means of strips affording an easily disengageable mechanical engagement such as hook and loop locking strips (such as VELCRO fasteners) or frictionally engaging locking devices (such as LEGO fasteners).

  • Patent number: 5195413
Abstract: The invention provides a punch press and shearing tool which operate to provide a series of cuts linked end-to-end for severing a work piece such as a piece of sheet metal. The shearing tool includes first and second elongated, cooperating cutting blades. Each of the blades has a pair of slidably related faces that slide against one another in a plane of reciprocation. The cutting edges are oriented at a small angle, e.g. 2.degree. to 6.degree., relative to one another to sever a piece of sheet stock progressively along a line with a scissor action. An intermittent work piece advancing motor shifts the work piece toward the cutting blades and parallel to the cut when the blades are apart. Gripping members can be yieldably mounted adjacent the cutting blades to grasp and forcefully hold the work piece in place as one blade moves toward the other. Yieldable stripper members on opposite sides of the second blade engage and independently deal with the stock on opposite sides of the cut.

  • Patent number: 5072636
Abstract: The slide 14 carries a support 18 for a plurality of tools, which is secured to a sleeve 34 rotatable and axially slidable on a body 38. The slide 14 carries a series of hydrostatic bearings 36, 39 and 87 to guide rotatably the sleeve 34 and axially the body 38. The sleeve 34 is antulrly tied to the body 38 through a normally closed front clutch 42, 43, which is opened by axially displacing the sleeve 34 with respect to the body 38, through a hydraulic device 44, 47. A reversible electric motor 52 is operated for rotating the sleeve 34 to select the tool, and may be numerically controlled for continuously displacing the tool during a working operation.

  • Patent number: 4611483
Abstract: A metal working press having a base, a die set located over the base, and coaxial primary and secondary rams movable towards and away from the base to drive the die set through a working stroke and return it to an open condition. The die set includes upper and lower die assemblies and the upper die assembly is connected to the primary ram in such a manner as to prevent axial separation but permit lateral movement of the die set relative to the ram whereby the die set can be moved into and out of the press. The upper die assembly includes two die members which are relatively movable in the axial direction of the ram and the extent of that relative movement is preset by a lost motion mechanism existing in the connection between the primary ram and the upper die assembly and also by engagement between opposed surfaces of the two rams.

  • Patent number: 4510786
Abstract: A method of making double reverse corrugated material includes feeding the material between an upper die and a lower die. Each of the dies have laterally spaced projections and a stripper positioned in the spaces between the projections of the die. One die is moved toward the other die to form the corrugations in the material. One die is moved away from the other die while both strippers and the other die are maintained substantially fixed with respect to each other. The stripper associated with the moving die is then moved with respect to the other die and the stripper associated with the other die is then moved with respect o the other die to strip the formed double reverse corrugated material from the dies. The formed material is then moved out from between the dies.

  • Patent number: 4131531
Abstract: For stripping or peeling electrorefined or otherwise purified metal, which have been deposited on a set of cathode sheets, off the opposite faces of the sheets, these sheets are transported from an electrolytic cell into a rack and are therein held in side-by-side relationship with preassigned spacings therebetween. A plurality of stripper assemblies each comprising a pair of stripper plates normally held in face-to-face relationship with each other are disposed in coplanar relationship to respective cathode sheets within the rack and are moved into and out of the rack. When each stripper assembly is moved into the rack, as by a hydraulic cylinder, its pair of stripper plates slide over the opposite faces of the corresponding one of the cathode sheets thereby peeling off the high-purity metal.

  • Patent number: 3945280
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cutting threads, particularly threads formed of mineral substances such as glass, are disclosed. A rotating drum carrying a plurality of radially extending cutting blades operates in conjunction with a rotating support drum which carries and supports the thread for cutting by the cutting blades. Ejector elements carried by the cutting drum and positioned in the spaces between the cutting blades are urged radially outwardly by centrifugal force and compress the thread against the surface of the support drum. The ejector elements then serve to strip cut sections of the thread from between the blades as the cutting blades move away from the support drum. Compressed air is supplied to the spaces between the cutting blades to remove waste material resulting from the cutting operation.
