  • Patent number: 10265878
Abstract: A material handling system is presented having a frame member and a pair of fork members that form a holding area configured to receive sheet stock therein. The sheet stock includes a plurality of parts that are connected by small tabs of material. The material handling system is used to remove the sheet stock from a cutting tool and dislodge the parts from the sheet stock by impacting the sheet stock with the fork members by rotation or movement of the forks. This arrangement eliminates the need to remove individual parts from a cutting tool, and instead allows for removal of the sheet stock and parts in a single operation thereby improving the utilization rate of the cutting tool and streamlining the manufacturing process.

  • Patent number: 6523445
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for rotating loose laminations in a loose lamination die, a strip is fed through the die to a rotatable blanking chamber of a blanking station. There, a punch engages with a die ring to punch a lamination free from the strip. The rotatable blanking chamber is biased in an upwardly direction. When the punch is not engaging with the die ring, the rotatable chamber is in an upward position wherein a gap develops between laminations retained at a bottom of the rotatable chamber, and those laminations lying directly below the rotatable chamber. The rotatable chamber can then be rotated without damage to the laminations at the gap because of the presence of the gap. A finger joint having an upper and lower portion is provided below the rotatable chamber which permits the gap to develop when the rotatable chamber is biased in the upward direction.

  • Patent number: 6408729
Abstract: Improved steel rule for use in a cutting die for cutting fixed patterns in a single or plurality of stacked material layers according to the shape of the steel rule. The improvement in the rule assists in the removal of small pieces of scrap material through the bottom of the die. The rule is undercut so that the gap between adjacent cavities is tapered. The tapered gap between adjacent cavities creates a vertical passageway that becomes wider toward the bottom of the passageway. This greatly facilitates removal of scrap material through the bottom of the die. By allowing scrap material to escape through the die, the operators are not required to stop periodically to clean the die, and the likelihood of scrap material becoming trapped in the die is minimized. Thus, the speed of the cutting operation is increased and life of the die may be prolonged.

  • Patent number: 5136907
Abstract: Stamping die for use with a punch to produce holes in strip material with the resulting production of a slug has a camming rib in the die opening. The rib prevents slug pulling when the punch returns from its extended position to its retracted position. The camming rib causes the slug to become wedged in the die opening and is effective to move the slug laterally in its own plane across the leading edge of the punch thereby overcoming any surface tension or other forces which might cause the slug to adhere to the face of the punch. The camming rib can be straight and extend parallel to the axis of the die opening if the die opening is not tapered. If the die opening has a slight taper, the camming rib is inclined thereby to cause movement of the slug across the face of the punch as the punch moves into the die opening.
