  • Patent number: 7673545
Abstract: A tissue slicing device is comprised of parallel circular blades coaxially connected to a rotary shaft. The blades are separated by gaps. A guide member is supported by a hinge adjacent the blades. An adjustment screw is positioned behind the guide member to control the distance between the guide member and the blades. The device includes a tissue carrier which is comprised of a base member and parallel plates extending from a top side of the base member. The plates are spaced to correspond with the gaps between the blades. Holes in the plates are aligned to define a tissue chamber for receiving a tissue sample. When the tissue carrier is positioned on the guide member and the blades rotated to drive the tissue carrier along the guide member, the tissue chamber is driven into the blades so the tissue sample is simultaneously cut into a plurality of slices.

  • Patent number: 6612211
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for processing mail by severing an edge of each envelope in a stack of mail. The apparatus includes an input bin for receiving a stack of mail. An agitator confronting the stack of envelopes in the input bin reciprocally displaces the bottom envelope in the stack of mail to provide separation between the bottom envelope and the remaining envelopes in the stack. A feeder feeds the bottom envelope from the input bin to a transport that conveys the envelope along an envelope path. A cutter positioned along the envelope path severs one edge of the envelopes. The transport discharges the opened envelopes onto a return conveyor that conveys the opened envelopes to a stacking area where the opened envelopes are stacked.

  • Patent number: 5417133
Abstract: A stamping and forming machine positively prevents slug pulling by stripping the slug off of the end of the punch as the punch is being withdrawn from the die opening after a blanking operation. This is accomplished by providing a die insert support in supporting contact with the die insert having an opening that is identical to the opening in the die insert, but that is rotationally or laterally displaced therefrom by a small amount. As the punch pushes a slug through the opening in the die insert, the slug encounters the displaced opening in the die insert support and is shifted slightly as it is forced into that opening by the punch. As the punch is withdrawn from the die insert opening, the shifted slug cannot return through the opening and is stripped off of the end of the punch.

Abstract: A modification to a reel type staple cutter that includes a compartmentalized assembly located below the cutter reel, each compartment forms an isolated cutting zone which reduces the opportunity for falling tufts of cut staple to mix and intermingle to form clumps which are difficult to open. The curved top plate of each compartment provides a downward force vector which assists gravitational forces and injected air to overcome centrifugal and adhesive forces tending to prevent staple from falling. Plates and baffles attached to a stationary shell located beneath the cutter reel split the cut fibers into discrete tufts despite the cohesive nature of the product and promote flow down and from each compartment.
