The inner blade is rotatably retained on an eccentric shaft decentered at a front end portion of the coupling shaft and is positioned inside the work W. The planetary gear is positioned outside the work W and fitted on a rear end portion of the coupling shaft coaxially and meshes with the ring gear.

    Abstract: Apparatus for and a method of handling flexible tubes, for example in the production of a liner for a cargo container to provide a tubular attachment on the liner. A tube 16 in the form of a web of flexible material is drawn over a support 39 mounted on a carrier 29,30, the support having a greater area than that of the opened-out tube and being tilted to the radial plane (FIG. 2) during the drawing action. The support is then moved to the radial plane (FIG. 4) so as to stretch the tube 16 in the region of the support whereafter the tube is cut from the web, in the vicinity of the support. The support 39 is moved to a further processing station (FIG. 8), carrying the cut off tube 16, whereat the tube is released from the support 39 by tilting the support once more and withdrawing the support from the tube. The support is then returned to its initial position ready for another cycle of operation.

The device comprises a spider mechanism in which a series of radially extending arms are attached to a central hub. The spider is arranged to be mounted on a base member so that the spider mechanism is free to rotate. A series of self propelled cutting wheels are mounted on the arms of the spider to allow the cutter wheels to contact the interior wall of the cylinder to be cut. The cutting wheels are arranged to drive the spider in a rotational manner while the cutter wheels are progressively pushed outwardly to deepen the cut. Each wheel follows in the track of the previous cutter wheel until the cylinder is severed.

The motor driven saw is supported by a linear bearing that can be displaced by an actuator laterally with respect to a housing structure which is provided with piston and cylinder assemblies on two adjacent side walls to serve as releasable anchors. The linear actuator presses the saw blade against a side wall of a fuel storage cell causing part of a blade segment to penetrate the side wall. Thereafter, a drive shaft supported by bearings in the housing structure is rotated to displace the motor driven saw about a radial path of travel for severing the remaining portions of the wall of the fuel cell.

The pipe cutting apparatus has an inner knife positioned inside a pipe and an annular outer knife positioned outside the pipe. The inner knife also revolves in an annular pattern about the centerline of the pipe such that a cutting edge of the inner knife contacts the entire interior periphery of the pipe during the cutting operation. The annular outer knife has a cutting edge adjacent an exterior surface of the pipe. The outer knife cutting edge surrounds the pipe and is in a position to overlap the inner knife cutting edge. The inner and outer knives move in the axial direction of the pipe during the cutting operation, and the inner knife cooperates with the outer knife to cut the pipe.

A cam driver is mounted on the fixed die for driving the cam slide to move along the movable die toward the fixed die to place the piercing punch into fitting engagement with the piercing bore in the fixed die as the movable die is displaced toward the fixed die.

    Abstract: A multicell battery case, adaptable for use with a variety of cell-pack sizes, is molded with universal-sized cell compartments and opposing spacer-ribs projecting a predetermined distance into the cell compartments from the compartments' walls so as to provide an inter-rib gap across the compartment substantially equal to the narrowest cell pack useful with that case. The case is thereafter adapted for use with thicker cell packs by trimming back the opposing ribs to increase the gap therebetween to approximately the thickness of the cell pack actually destined for use with that case. Preferably, rib-shaving blades are inserted into the case and guided in spaced relation from the rib-bearing walls to remove distal portions of the ribs. Means are provided to detach the shavings from the container at their roots.
