Patent number: 7755013Abstract: Disclosed is a laser guidance system for diamond wire stone cutting apparatus. The laser guidance system includes a targeting laser light source that is fitted to one of two wire guide wheels between which the cutting wire extends and travels. A photo sensor with laser beam detectors is attached to the other wire guide wheel. During ideal operation of the cutting apparatus, the laser beam shines through the kerf in the stone being cut. When the kerf is linearly straight, as intended, the laser beam will be clearly detected by the laser beam detectors. When the kerf is not straight, the laser beam will be at least partially obscured across the cutting span, and the laser beam detectors will detect the lack of full intensity and report this to a controller so as to indicate that adjustments are necessary to re-straighten the kerf.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2008Date of Patent: July 13, 2010Assignee: Western American Mining CompanyInventor: Bart Levine

Patent number: 5035164Abstract: A machine for cutting and stacking into layers sheets of a pre-established size from a plurality of strips of wood obtained from a piece of veneer. The pieces of veneer are fed into a cutter by means of a first conveyor belt actuated by a control means which detects flaws in the wood to cut out transverse strips containing the flaws that are then automatically discarded as they come off the cutter. Strips free from defects are then sent on by a second conveyor belt to a deflector which distributes the strips onto two conveyor belts with intermittent movement so as to arrange the strips into compact adjacent groups to form a sheet of desired length. The plurality of adjacent strips forming a sheet are then sent to stackers to form layers of the sheets.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1990Date of Patent: July 30, 1991Assignee: Angelo Cremona & Figlio S.p.A.Inventor: Lorenzo Cremona

Patent number: 4972743Abstract: An apparatus for feeding sheets comprises a variable speed conveyor for feeding a sheet cut from a web. A high speed conveyor receives the sheet fed by the variable speed conveyor, and feeds it at a high speed v1. Patent number: 4738175Abstract: A defect detection system is especially applicable to string type potatoes for removing the black spots and includes removing or sorting out potatoes with black spots. It includes a pair of line scanning cameras focused on opposite sides of a vertical on a common line, spaced above the conveyor belt to the height of the potato. Such opposite sight lines provide for effective sensing of leading or trailing edges of the potato. To provide for effective cutting, the cutting blade units have offset blades to allow overlap and a spacing so that areas of uncertainty created by the two cameras are eliminated. To minimize down-time of the system, the vision light, power and punch modules are separately removable. Moreover, they are located on a cantilevered base above the moving belt. This cantilevering in conjunction with pivoted supports allows for a seamless belt and easy removal of that belt.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1985Date of Patent: April 19, 1988Assignee: Simco-Ramic Corp.Inventors: James A.
