Spring Return Of Tool In Counterfly Direction Patents (Class 83/314)
  • Patent number: 6966245
Abstract: A rotary cutting die includes a trim stripper having a generally pentagonal shape which forcibly separates severed trim scrap from cut corrugated board, directing the scrap material generally downwardly and away from the trimmed corrugated board product. The pentagonal shaped stripping member mounts on the surface of a die board adjacent a trim cutting blade and is formed of a resilient material, such as closed cell rubber, which deforms elastically when forced into contact with the incoming blank of material. The angled nature of the stripper surface allows the stripper to smoothly contact and capture the leading edge of the blank, greatly reducing the potential for an initial destructive misalignment at the stripper-blank interface.

  • Patent number: 5365818
Abstract: An improved hydraulic press has a hydraulic die that is pulled to move along a work path relative to the hydraulic press by a moving coil of material. After movement the hydraulic die engages the hydraulic press and the two begin to move together. With this arrangement, the moving material only need initially overcome the inertia of the hydraulic die. The moving hydraulic die has momentum when it engages the hydraulic press, and that momentum assists in overcoming the inertia of the relatively heavy hydraulic press. A relatively thin sheet material can thus be utilized to move both the die and hydraulic press.

  • Patent number: 5361662
Abstract: A hydraulic press comprises a hydraulic drive for driving a die surface towards and away from a moving workpiece. The die surface and the hydraulic drive both move with the workpiece on rails. This is an improvement over prior art systems where only the die surface would move with the workpiece. In another aspect of the present invention a plurality of pickups also move with the hydraulic press. These pickups engage apertures in the workpiece to properly align cutting elements on the die with the workpiece. A control selectively actuates certain ones of the plurality of pickups to allow one to quickly change the size of elements formed by the die.

  • Patent number: 4762039
Abstract: A running strand of hot steel stock is severed at desired intervals by two knives which are located in a common plane and are mounted in a common holder movable transversely of the advancing strand by a double-acting hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder and piston assembly. The holder for the knives is coupled to the strand prior to start of the severing operation, and one of the knives is thereupon caused to penetrate into the material of the strand to be retracted prior to penetration, or simultaneously with penetration, of the other knife which operates in the same plane so that the stock is severed without the formation of burrs, fins or similar irregularities.

  • Patent number: 4693151
Abstract: There is disclosed a cutting mechanism for a stacker. A web of record members traveling in a longitudinal direction is severed by the cutting mechanism while the web is traveling. The cutting mechanism severs the web transversely to cut off the record members. The cutting mechanisms has cutters or knives that travel as a unit with respect to each other and with respect to the web in the longitudinal direction as the web travels.

  • Patent number: 4486929
Abstract: A tile perforating unit wherein tile is continuously advanced through a frame by advancing means. Moveably mounted on the frame and directed toward the tile is at least one perforating tool. From an initial position, the tool extends and engages a point along the wall of the tile at which perforation is desired. As the tool moves to maintain engagement with the advancing tile a harpoon is extended from the tool to perforate the tile wall. Once perforation is completed, the harpon is withdrawn and the tool retracts and returns to the initial position for repeated perforation of the tile.

  • Patent number: 4394829
Abstract: In a flying shear wherein strip stock moves lengthwise forward, a lower blade carrier, confined to forward and backward motion, has an upwardly facing clamping surface and carries a lower shearing blade. An upper blade carrier, connected with the lower one for back and forth motion with it and for up and down motion relative to it, carries an upper shearing blade and is biased to a raised position. A gripper, connected to the lower blade carrier to swing about an axis spaced substantially above said clamping surface, has a bottom wedging surface curved eccentrically to said axis. The gripper is biased forward, for engagement of its said surface against strip stock whereby the strip stock is clamped to the clamping surface and pulls the blade carriers forward.

  • Patent number: 4286489
Abstract: A dispenser guides a web from a roll of sheet material over a feed roller to a position to be grasped by the user while roller mounted knife means cuts the web into individual sheets and a manually engagable handwheel, rotatable with the feed roller, provides peripherally spaced finger notches to facilitate manual forward rotation of the roller in dispensing the material. The notches are formed differently in separate circumferential portions of the handwheel such that pawl means, successively engaging the notches incident handwheel rotation, prevents reverse rotation of the feed roller throughout a first portion of each feed roller revolution and biasing means acts to cause reverse rotation throughout a second portion of the feed roller revolution to assure return of the knife means to a safe inaccessible location within the dispenser when the handwheel is released.

  • Patent number: 4257291
Abstract: A dispenser for cards which are withdrawn by customers at the entrance of a parking lot has a housing for a supply of coherent cards which are transported seriatim by advancing rolls toward an outlet opening for withdrawal by customers. On its way toward the outlet opening, each card is provided with legible information by a matrix printer which can apply such information in response to a signal from a computer while the card is in motion. The thus imprinted card then advances between the matrix and the perforating tool of a punching apparatus which applies one or more holes while the card is in motion. The matrix and the tool are mounted on a plate which is secured to a fixed bracket by a first parallel motion mechanism so that it can move in and counter to the direction of movement of the card between the tool and the martrix. The plate is pivotable about a fixed axis by an oscillating crank gear so that the tool moves along an arcuate path to which the adjacent card is tangential.

  • Patent number: 4213363
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting and simultaneously dispensing a web of roll material comprising a carrier for a roll of material mounted in a casing and urged against a rotatable drum which is driven in rotation by manual traction applied to a free end of the material extending from the casing. A profiled pawl is supported at one of the ends of the drum and cooperates with a shock absorber and an elastic abutment to brake the drum at the end of one revolution and hold it in readiness for a subsequent pull on the material. An eccentric lever is secured at the other end of the drum and is engaged by a spring such that in a first portion of rotation of the drum, the spring absorbs energy and after a dead point, it releases its energy to drive the drum in rotation.

  • Patent number: 4020721
Abstract: In the disclosed apparatus, a movable die is slidably mounted about a guide base for translation along a longitudinal direction thereof. The movable die is spring biased toward one end of the die guide and accepts the continuous strip stock output of a rolled mill as fed by the mill. A straight rod is pivotally mounted to the movable die for translation therewith. The rod is slidably mounted about an adjacent stationary table which projects away from the movable die in the direction of movement of the strip stock. The rod includes a cut-off block fixedly mounted at a predetermined point intermediate the ends of the rod. As the strip stock advances through guide surfaces disposed about the table, it engages the block so that upon subsequent movement of the stock the movable die is translated with the stock. When a given surface of the die reaches a predetermined point, the surface engages a microswitch which closes the cutting blades of the movable die to sever a predetermined length of strip stock.
