Abstract: A guide for use with a cutting member, such as hand saws, that is easy to use, is readily portable and can be adjusted to permit cutting of precise compound angles on work pieces of various configurations. The guide mechanism comprises two angularly related members arranged so that when one member engages the face of a work piece, the other member functions to glidably engage a cutting member, such as the blade of a hand saw with the teeth thereof in cutting relation with said face of the work piece. In one form of the invention, locking mechanisms are provided to lock the member in any selected angular relation and a magnet is carried by the guide member which uniquely functions to continuously urge the saw into engagement with a plurality of rollers that are also carried by the guide member.
Abstract: Single blade, single cut tubing cut-off apparatus moves a blade along a first path of travel in which a first portion of the blade pierces the tubing and a second path of travel in which a second portion of the blade completes the cut, all in a concerted process. Motion of the blade is controlled by a cam and follower. The tubing is clamped for cutting by a pair of pivotably mounted jaws opened and closed by spring biased cam action.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for fine shearing a metal workpiece involves placing the workpiece on a stationary die surface for support and driving a single punch against the workpiece such that at least a portion of the workpiece is placed in compression. The punch is then driven into and through the workpiece along a predetermined path which has a first directional component both perpendicular to and directed toward the die surface and a second directional component both parallel to the die surface and directed into the compressed portion of the workpiece. The punch is driven with a force having components both perpendicular to and parallel to the path of the punch. The force component perpendicular to the punch path is large enough to keep the compressed portion of the workpiece in a plastic state. The force component parallel to the path of the punch is large enough to overcome the shear strength of the workpiece along the path.
Abstract: In the film cutter of this invention, a cutter carriage is guided by a guide rod of a circular cross section allowing it to make both a translational motion along the guide rod and a tilting motion about the guide rod, whereby a rotary blade mounted on the cutter carriage is assured of a close contact with a fixed linear blade irrespective of the thickness of the film to be cut for always attaining a satisfactory cutting action. And a film holder working in synchronism with the cutter carriage allows a roll of film to be cut into specified lengths in a sequential manner.
Abstract: A shear comprising a lower fixed blade beam mounted within a frame, a guide carrier guided for vertical movement in the frame and an upper blade carrier rigidly attached to the guide carrier by releasable connecting means for concurrent vertical movement with the guide carrier. The blade carrier is reciprocated by drive means which lowers the blade and guide carriers to a lower position where the upper and lower blade beams are cooperatively opposed on opposite sides of a workpiece to begin a shearing operation. Inclined guide surfaces are provided on the guide and blade carriers for allowing the blade carrier to move obliquely with respect to the guide carrier upon release of the rigid attachment between the two carriers to perform a shearing operation.
