  • Patent number: 10442019
Abstract: A feed/clamp apparatus includes a feed vise mechanism provided upstream from a cutting position, and a downstream vise mechanism provided just downstream from the cutting position. The feed vise mechanism includes first/second feed vise jaws, a downstream moving cylinder for moving the first feed vise jaw, and a downstream shifting cylinder for shifting the second feed vise jaw. The downstream vise mechanism includes first/second downstream vise jaws, a downstream moving cylinder for moving the first downstream vise jaw, and a downstream shifting cylinder for shifting a second downstream vise jaw. A vise surface of the second downstream vise jaw is located on one side of the vise reference position when the downstream shifting cylinder is located its stroke end on the one side. A thrust force of the downstream shifting cylinder toward the one side is made equal to a thrust force of the downstream moving cylinder toward another side.

  • Patent number: 6047622
Abstract: An apparatus for scarfing edge portions of a veneer sheet to produce a joint suited for joining the veneer sheets in an edge to edge relation. A conveyor system aligns, conveys and flattens the sheet. The sheet as it is being conveyed is engaged by tapered anvils provided on each side of the apparatus that deflect edge portions of the sheet at an angle to the plane of the flattened sheet. A diverter directs the edge of the sheet to one side or the other of the anvils. The resiliency of the sheet maintains the deflected edge portion against the anvil. The edge of the sheet when diverted to one side of the anvils is conveyed through scarfing saws that generate a bevel on each of the deflected side edges. The edge of the sheet when diverted to the opposite side of the anvils by-passes the scarfing saws.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for slitting a stack of folded corrugated paperboard boxes utilizes a thin slitting blade mounted for continuous movement through a slitting station and defining a vertical slitting plane. A stack supporting table straddles the slitting blade to support a stack of boxes in a stand-by position above the blade. Adjustable upstream and downstream squaring devices are operative to square and center the stack in the cutting plane and a vertically reciprocable ram operates to move the stack and the supporting table downwardly past the blade against a table biasing force to slit the stack into two half-size stacks. The squaring device is operable to re-square the slit half-size stacks prior to conveyance out of the slitting station. • Patent number: 5235888
Abstract: A tire cutting machine that cuts the sidewalls from passenger car tires. The cutting operation is performed on both sidewalls simultaneously. The inner side of the tire tread rests on two rollers so that the tread becomes the reference point for the cutting blades. The tire tread is brought into contact with a drive wheel positioned on the outside of the tire tread and opposite one of the rollers on the inner side of the tire tread. The drive wheel causes the tire to rotate in a vertical plane. Two cutting blades (one on each side of the tire) are brought into contact with the sidewalls to sever them from the tread. Abstract: Apparatus for cutting stacks of sheets has a first cutting machine which subdivides large piles of overlapping sheets into elongated strip-shaped stacks. The stacks are accumulated on a platform which is moved into a second cutting machine wherein a selected number of stacks is pushed by a feeding device across the cutting plane of a guillotine type knife before the knife descends to separate smaller stacks which come to rest on a plate or enter a gap formed in response to retraction of the plate so that the severed portions of the stacks can be advanced to a processing machine. The stacks which are about to be severed are pushed by a biasing device against a stop which extends at right angles to the cutting plane in the second machine, and each such stack is further pushed by an aligning device so that it abuts the feeding device. This ensures that the stacks are properly oriented prior to severing by the knife in the second machine.

Abstract: A resaw has twin arbors with one to six blades mounted on each arbor. In addition, the resaw has a rotatable fence with a continuous belt along its periphery. Two side pressure rollers are mounted adjacent to the rotatable fence between an entrance to the resaw and the blades. A workbed of the resaw is made up of a series of spiked rollers. Just prior to an exit from the resaw, there is located a top roller which is mounted normal to the side pressure rollers and can move further away from or closer to the workbed. The arbors are each powered by an electric motor. The rotatable fence, the side pressure rollers and the spiked rollers are all powered by hydraulic motors connected to a single power source and all rotate at the same speed at any given time. The side pressure rollers are automatically adjustable so that they exert pressure towards the rotatable fence on any wood that is located between said rollers and said fence.

  • Patent number: 4679475
Abstract: A trough conveyor receives small logs from a deck to form a bundle and conveys the bundled logs lengthwise to a discharge end. The log bundle is transported intermittently to project sections of the log bundle successively beyond the discharge end of the trough conveyor, which sections are cut off to form batches of bolts by vertically reciprocable twin saw cutoff mechanism. After a cutting operation, the saws may be swung away from each other to clear the trough conveyor while the saws are being raised and, during such raising movement, the trough conveyor may be powered to feed the log bundle lengthwise to project the next bolt-making increment of the logs beyond the cutoff mechanism.

Abstract: The fiber cutting device of the present invention comprises a die block having a feed opening extending therethrough for receiving a multi-strand fiber. The die block has a flat cutting surface at one end of the feed opening. A fiber feeder is adapted to feed the fiber through the feed opening toward the cutting surface. A rotatable cutting blade is mounted to rotate about an axis approximately parallel to the longitudinal axis of the feed opening, and the blade has a cutting edge adapted to pass in sliding frictional engagement with the cutting surface of the die block once during each revolution of the cutting blade so as to cooperate with the cutting surface to cut the fiber exiting from the feed opening. Adjustable controls are provided for adjusting the speed at which the feeder feeds the fiber through the feed opening, and additional adjustable controls are provided for adjusting the rotational speed of the cutting blade.
