  • Patent number: 8122802
Abstract: A power saw includes a saw assembly attached to a base assembly with an offset support that provides a clear path in line with the saw blade, thereby providing a miter saw, a table saw or a radial arm saw The height of the offset support is adjustable to make dado cuts, and a tilt mechanism is mounted at the top of the offset support to provide an “apparent” tilt axis near the top surface of the turntable, thereby eliminating an axle near the turntable top surface. A first fence used for miter cuts may be moved or removed during table cut operations. Alternatively, a reversible fence may be used for miter cuts when configured and affixed to the base assembly in a first position, and may be used for table or radial cuts when configured and affixed to the base assembly in a second position.

  • Patent number: 7455002
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for cutting an elastomeric laminate that may include a layer of reinforcement cords, into a desired length without cutting through the cords. The method includes the step of cutting through the gum portion of the elastomeric composite material at a desired skive angle, and then opening up the skived cut. Next, the cord reinforcement layer is cut without severing the reinforcement cords. An elastomeric composite strip cut to the desired length is produced and has cut ends. One of the cut ends has the gum portion cut at a desired skive angle adjacent an overhang portion of the reinforcement layer. The opposite end of the elastomeric composite segment also has a skived portion to mate with the skived portion of the first cut end, and a gap in the cord ply to mate with the cord overhang of the first end, resulting in a splice. An improved anvil having independently controlled vacuum zones is also provided, as well as improved cutting mechanisms.

The paper is nipped and transported with a transporting roller system arranged downstream of the punching unit in a paper transport direction to make at least a leading edge of the paper pass through an aligning unit. An actuator is activated to end the nipping of the paper by the transporting roller system, and the aligning unit aligns the paper in a width direction thereof that is perpendicular to the paper transport direction. The activation of the actuator is ended to resume the nipping of the paper, and a stopper member is inserted into a paper transport path upstream of a punch of the punching unit. Abstract: A safety device for a radial arm saw is presented. The device is readily attached to a radial arm saw by attaching it to the top of the table and the guide rail. The safety device has a three-sided, box-shaped handle part, which has a circular gripping handle between two of the sides. The handle is attached to a slide bar which slides through a carriage unit. The front face plate of the handle has a number of spring-loaded anti-kickback pins on one side. These anti-kickback pins are pushed in by the workpiece and the remaining, protruding, pins keep the workpiece against the table. The handle pivots upwardly from the slide bar. When it is desired to load a board onto the table for cutting, the handle is rotated up. Once the board is loaded the handle is rotated down and pushed forward. The front face plate holds the board against the guard rail and the anti-kickpins hold the board down. Once in that position, the saw blade can be pulled across the board, thus cutting the board.
