  • Patent number: 5713259
Abstract: A high speed hand tool includes a saw disc having less than ten teeth, preferably four. Each tooth has a radial flank, which preferably inclines forward in the cutting direction, and a tangential flank, which has a small clearance angle. The teeth may have a greater thickness than the disc itself which thickness, in that case, diminishes in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation. Alternatively, the teeth may be offset alternately to the right and the left. The invention also comprises an adjustable protective device which enables setting the depth of a perpendicular saw cut.

  • Patent number: 5699705
Abstract: A retention apparatus for an electrically powered hand-held circular saw having a retractable lower saw blade guard, that holds the lower saw blade guard in the retracted position as long as the power on/off switch is activated. This lower saw blade guard holder enables the saw operator to readily manipulate the saw with one hand while using the other hand to improve the safety environment of the cutting action, such as holding the material to be cut, or keeping the power cord out of the path of the saw during the cutting activity. In one embodiment, the lower saw blade guard holder comprises an electromagnet, wired to the power on/off switch, which holds a section of ferromagnetic material on the lower saw blade guard. Another embodiment of this invention has the lower saw blade guard holder mechanically latched by a latch that is mechanically coupled to the power on/off switch. In one embodiment, the lower saw blade guard holder also contains a lamp for lighting up the material being cut.

  • Patent number: 5140754
Abstract: A hood for a power tool, such as a grinding wheel on a saw, in which the hood is rotatable relative to the frame of the tool. The tool has a system for repositionably fixing the hood at selected locations. The system includes a detent connected to the hood with a plurality of lock notches and a longitudinally movable lock pin connected to the frame. The lock pin can be positioned into one of the detent notches to prevent the hood from moving and, can be longitudinally moved to disconnect the lock pin from the detent thus allowing the hood to be repositioned. The system includes a knob to axially rotate the lock pin, a cam member to longitudinally move the lock pin upon axial rotation, and a leaf spring to bias the lock pin in an engaged lock position with the hood detent.
