Abstract: A device is disclosed for cutting material on a material supporting surface. The device has at least one cutting unit, which can be motor-driven in a controlled manner above the material supporting surface in the direction of the X- and Y-axes of a Cartesian coordinate system that is parallel to the material supporting surface, and has an oscillation drive and a cutting knife. The oscillation drive sets the cutting knife into linear oscillations along an oscillation axis that is perpendicular to the advancing direction of the cutting knife. In order to be able to produce slanting cuts or V-grooves in the material with the oscillating cutting knife, the oscillating drive with the cutting knife is pivotable around a pivot axis that is parallel to the material supporting surface for changing the angle of inclination of the oscillation axis with respect to the material supporting surface.

  • Publication number: 20140150617
Abstract: A manually-powered, lever-operated, multi-hole punch device with visual alignment indicia, for punching holes in stacked sheet media such as paper. The hole punch device includes an elongated base with a top side divided along its length in approximate halves, with the front half being a lower flat surface transitioning through a step to a rear half, upper flat surface. The upper flat surface includes a plurality of peninsulas extending into the lower flat surface, such that the areas between the peninsulas include a visual alignment indicator. Punch elements and their punch pins are located on each peninsula overlying the lower flat surface, and the height of the step creates a slot to receive the paper stack. Underneath each punch pin on the lower flat surface is a receiving hole to receive the reciprocating punch pin. An optional chip receptacle is positioned at the underside of the base.

  • Publication number: 20130327194
Abstract: A method for monitoring cutting processing on a workpiece whereby a part of the workpiece is separated from a remainder of the workpiece along a desired cut contour, wherein, after the cutting processing, the following steps are carried out: irradiating the workpiece with a laser beam at a location within the desired cut contour, detecting radiation generated by an interaction between the laser beam and the workpiece, and evaluating the detected radiation to determine whether, during the cutting processing, the part of the workpiece was completely separated from the remainder of the workpiece. The invention also relates to a laser processing machine for carrying out the method.

  • Patent number: 8166860
Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a system for forming miter joints including a miter saw and an angle gauge. The miter saw includes a platform with a kerf slot and a pair of arcuate slots. Each arcuate slot includes an associated rail located on the underside of the platform. A fence is coupled to each of the rails such that the fence may be pivoted with respect to the platform. The angle measurement tool is a one-handed tool including spring loaded paddles that measure the angle between intersecting surfaces. The angle measurement tool connects to the miter saw to permit the transfer of the measured angle to the fences.

  • Patent number: 8146469
Abstract: A container or pan for producing predetermined food portions is disclosed. Indicia are formed on the container at selected intervals adjacent an outer peripheral edge. A cutting blade is provided having a length substantially equivalent to a length, or a width, or a diameter of the container; or to a distance between a pair of cooperating indicia. The cutting blade is adapted to extend from the indicia on one side of the container to the indicia on another side of the container. The cutting member is placed in alignment with the respective indicia and then forced downwardly through the food. The indicia provide a guide to readily align the cutting blade for cutting the food into selected sized portions without having to measure and mark the food prior to cutting.

  • Publication number: 20110162499
Abstract: In embodiments of the present invention improved capabilities are described for a paper roll resizing system. The paper roll resizing system may include a shafted roll stand that suspends a roll of paper mounted horizontally, wherein the shafted roll stand is fixed to a machine housing and is adapted to spin the roll of paper. Alternatively, the roll stand suspends the roll of paper mounted horizontally from two chucks on opposite ends of the roll. The system further includes a cutting tool movably mounted to the roll stand, wherein the cutting tool comprises at least one of a milling head, a planing head, a circular saw, and a laser cutting tool. A controller (PLC) may adjust the position of the cutting tool with respect to the roll of paper held by the roll stand.

  • Publication number: 20090178530
Abstract: The metal panel shear cutter of the instant invention is designed for metal panels which include support ribs. The panel cutter utilizes an anvil type cutting blade positioned at each side of the cutting base. Each cutting blade is pivotally connected to a cutting base in the vertical plane. The cutting base also includes recesses in the top surface of the base for receiving the ribs of the panels when the panels are placed on the shear cutter with the ribs face down, to allow for a smooth and clean cut of the panel. The cutting blades and a small portion of the base are also pivotally connected to the cutting base in the horizontal plane so they may be pivoted to the desired cutting angle while the metal panel remains fixed with respect to the base. This pivotal portion of the base includes additional recesses in the top surface thereof for supporting the ribs of the panel. These recesses in the pivotal portion of the base are substantially the same size as the ribs of the panel to permit a clean cut.
