  • Patent number: 7117706
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming attachment pads in an inner body panel for the precise attachment of an outer body panel thereto. The apparatus positions a fixed anvil at a predefined net reference position while a face plate simultaneously “finds” the panel and is mechanically locked into position. Thereafter, the apparatus forms the inner body panel between a forming die and the fixed anvil. The face plate maintains the location of the surface metal around the die, resulting in the formation of a raised pad the outermost surface of which is at the predefined net reference position. A single such apparatus can form raised pads having different predefined net reference positions for different attachment locations. A reciprocating punch having a variable stroke length selectively provides either a hole or a slot in the raised pad.

  • Publication number: 20040244559
Abstract: An improved cutting fixture for heat-shrink film sleeve labeling machines comprised of a mounting frame disposed around the outer periphery of the center guide post in a sleeve labeling machine that secures a plurality of blade assemblies at equal intervals apart. Each blade assembly is positioned on a drive plate by means of an inserted eccentric shaft to maintain synchronous operation. The eccentric shafts of the blade assembly are driven into reciprocal rotation by a power structure, each eccentric shaft causing the blades at their lower extents to alternately project and retract for cutting heat-shrink film at a required travel and time to effectively shorten the period involved and thereby increase production efficiency. Each cutter shaft is restrained by a check plate and anchoring screws to prevent 360-degree free rotation, which not only results in safer blade replacement, but at the same time also prolongs the service life of the transmission and structural components.

  • Patent number: 5957024
Abstract: A piercing apparatus for forming partially overlapped small holes in upper and lower layers of lining material includes upper and lower piercing stands having piercing members affixed thereto respectively. The upper and lower piercing members have engaging cut-out portions corresponding to a shape of the overlap desired between the holes. When holes are formed for a first layer of lining material, the material is positioned between upper and lower stands mounting the piecing members and the lower piercing member is driven up to cut-out the shape of the opening for the first layer except for the overlap area. Then as the lower piercing member is driven up further, the leading edge of its cut-out portion engages the trailing edge of the corresponding cut-out portion of the upper piercing member. At this time the shape of the overlap portion is cut from the first layer of lining material.

  • Patent number: 5740717
Abstract: In contrast to typical machines though, the present invention discloses a device which allows the plate to "float" within the mechanism, so that any inaccuracies in dimensional tolerances between plate and knife are absorbed in a damping of the plate or bed of the mechanism. In this situation, the depth of the cut of the score line can be very reliably controlled, which results in the repeatable manufacturing of a child resistant, yet senior effective package. There is used a spring pre-load for this plate, which is such that cutting takes place yet, as the tool closes, the plate and package come in "metal to metal" contact, assuring "near perfect" cuts of the blister package. Extremely high tolerances are maintained, assuring packages which pass all levels and types of QA testing.

  • Patent number: 4905557
Abstract: The punch comprises peripheral cutting edges and lateral cutting edges. The peripheral edges cut a slug in the desired shape, for examples, rectangular, square, oval, trapezoidal, D and double D-shaped, etc. while the lateral edges cut transversely from one peripheral edge to an opposite peripheral edge, thereby splitting the slug. Lateral cutting edges provide a dividing line across the working face. Surfaces and cutting edges on each side of the dividing line are similar and canted at opposite angles. Lateral cutting edges and peripheral cutting edges at their juncture provide pyramidal cutting sections which initially pierce the workpiece and initiate lateral slug splitting. This split grows from the slug periphery toward the center. Splitting is complete before a substantial portion of the slug periphery is cut.

No. 3,608,117 wherein one strip is formed with studs longitudinally spaced at intervals and a second strip apertured and counterbored at the same intervals is used to bind sheets apertured at the same intervals at locations spaced inward from one marginal edge is described. A pressure bar is first manually moved to operative position and a handle compresses the strips together by exerting a controlled force on the pressure bar. The handle then initiates movement of a support for a knife consisting of a length of metallic ribbon material having spaced horizontal stretches in horizontal alignment with excess stud lengths of the first strip projecting through the second strip, the ribbon being under tension to hold such stretches taut. As the support moves toward the studs a current is passed through the ribbon, heating it so that the ribbon functions to cut off the excess stud length slightly below the second strip.
