  • Patent number: 6182547
Abstract: A steel blank can be removed from the space between a lower stationary die and an upper movable die by employing a belt conveyor in a cavity in the upper die. The frame for the conveyor belt mounts an array of permanent magnets that exert a magnetic pick-up force through the lower run of the belt into the steel blank. The conveyor frame is floatably suspended to follow the upper die, while being downwardly deflected by the action of a stripper pad carried by the upper die, such that the blank is dislodged from the upper die and then transported out of the space between the two dies.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for unloading presses with a nonhydraulic press unloader. The apparatus generally includes a support frame, a reciprocating tray, a tray arm, a link arm, an actuating arm, and an attachment arm. The support frame has a pair of support frame members having top surfaces. A tray roller, for supporting the reciprocating tray, is rotatably mounted to each end of the support frame member. The tray arm is slidably engaged with the top surface of one of the support frame members and is pivotally attached to the link arm. The midsection of the tray arm is pinably connected to the reciprocating tray. The actuating arm is pivotally connected to the other end of the link arm and to the support frame. A pickup roller is rotatably attached to the actuating arm near its midsection. A release roller is rotatably attached to the actuating arm also near the midsection and adjacent the pickup roller. • Patent number: 4619163
Abstract: Precut pieces of wood of like configuration are stacked in a hopper from the lower end of which they are advanced one-by-one by a reciprocable pusher onto a horizontally disposed work station. As soon as a workpiece is positioned on the station it is automatically clamped into place, after which two rotary saws, which are mounted adjacent opposite ends of the station, are reciprocated from retracted to advanced positions, during which movement they cut away portions of the workpiece at opposite ends thereof. As soon as the saws have advanced passed the workpiece, they are retracted slightly away from opposite ends of the workpiece, so that they will not reengage the workpiece when they return to their starting positions. When the saws are retracted the now-cut workpiece is automatically released and then ejected from the work station, after which a cycling relay automatically causes another workpiece to be shifted onto the work station so that the above-noted steps are repeated.

  • Patent number: 4480515
Abstract: Apparatus for laterally ejecting elongate articles, such as tube lengths, from a channel defined by a roller bed, the channel extending beyond a flying saw for severing continuous lengths into said elongate articles, said apparatus being operated by a signal generator fitted to the flying saw so that an ejection operation is initiated by an optional delay after completion of a severing operation. Operation is not impaired in the event of the tube being fractured during the rolling operation, since the ejection operation takes place in timed relation to the severing operation and does not depend on detection of the presence or absence of tube ends.

  • Patent number: 4470330
Abstract: A tooling assembly for use with a mechanical impact press includes a pair of die blocks which effect cutting of rods, bars and tubes by the rapid misalignment of aligned apertured tools. Realignment is achieved by a reciprocable cam which also limits the extent of misalignment. Means are provided for clamping or dragging the end of a workpiece stock upstream from the prospective cutting plane. A wedge shaped recess adjacent to the aperture of the movable tool or die block provides a high degree of uniformity in workpiece length as measured at various points of a given workpiece. Where the workpiece stock is tubular, a floating mandrel is disposed within the workpiece in the upstream tool or die block while a reciprocable mandrel supports, receives, resizes and discharges the tubular workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4205569
Abstract: High speed tube cutting apparatus provides die means for the simultaneous cutting of a plurality of tube segments from a length of tubing. Preferred embodiments are capable of cutting the tube segments in extremely short lengths and with the ends thereof formed on a bias. The improvements of the invention eliminate waste and enable the shearing of the tube segments to be achieved in a single stroke of the included die means. A further feature of the invention apparatus is that it provides means for precisely realigning sheared tube segments with the tubing from which they have been cut to facilitate their ejection under the influence of the advancement of such tubing.

  • Patent number: 4073176
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for piercing and flanging a metal workpiece. The apparatus includes a punch and a back-up die with the punch driven by a hydraulic ram. The punch, die, and ram are mounted on a frame which is movably carried by a main support. A workpiece support is affixed to the main support and positions the workpiece between the punch and the die. The ram moves the punch toward and away from the workpiece relative to the frame and also causes the frame to move relative to the workpiece. This arrangement enables the punch and die to seek operative positions relative to the workpiece without the necessity of the workpiece being precisely positioned. The punch and die are also designed to be reversed to provide the opposite operation on the workpiece, if desired.

  • Patent number: 4056993
Abstract: Sheet slitting and punching apparatus for cutting a large elongate sheet of paperboard or similar material into a plurality of rectangular cards of uniform size and punching holes in each of the individual cards. A large sheet is fed along a conveying means having two tandemly arranged feed sections separated from each other by a transverse and a longitudinal slitting station. Both feed sections of the conveyor are driven from a common drive means, however, the upstream or infeed section is driven at a conveying speed substantially slower than that of the downstream or outfeed section. Transversely spaced slitters form longitudinally extending slits in the sheet as it is fed along the conveying means. When the feeding end of the sheet reaches a predetermined location near the upstream end of the outfeed conveyor, it engages a sensing element which immediately stops the conveyor drive.

  • Patent number: 3960023
Abstract: A stored energy ejector mechanism is disclosed and described and includes an ejector plunger member which is propelled by a spring-bias induced by an actuator lever actuated by a stroke of a punch press and the like. The stored energy in these springs is released and the propelling or ejection motion of a plunger member is begun by the actuation of a trigger mechanism whose release time is selectively established and preferably occurs during the same stroke of the press mechanism in which is produced the loading of the springs. Although primarily for use with a punch press to provide a substantially quiet ejector action, this stored energy is equally applicable to other operations such as providing an ejector mechanism for use with a conveying or line inspection system employing linear motion.
